My cat has been diagnosed with colitis today and I was advised to change his food to a "senior" variety. He currently eats Bozita and has done since he was a kitten. He's 6 years old. And whilst we are here, any tips on how to get him to take his medication?

I'm afraid I don't know much about senior food. All mine get the same stuff - young and old. For giving pills though Gourmet Gold pate is wonderful. Cats seem to love it and it's sticky, so you can hide pills in it. They do a senior version of that.

And lots of info on giving pills in this thread below:

Thank you, he easily took his pill with a few dreamies. I've just got some felix 7+ food but not really happy feeding him that, I prefer a grain free high meat content food.

I would feel the way you do about the food. Surely a high quality, grain-free food is going to be better than a crap quality 'senior' one.

Can you ask the vet what aspect of senior food is beneficial (is it lower protein? lower calories?) and then do some research among the better foods to see what else may fit the bill?

It's apparently easier to digest?

OK. But why? What is it about it's composition that makes it so? Maybe a vet will come on this thread and explain. Failing that, I would ask your vet.

Sainsburys do a grain-free senior range and it's very cheap! Our vet wants our old boy on senior food to help protect his kidneys, I'm not convinced it's any better than standard non-senior grain-free, and old cat likes variety so I mix and match.
