Talk me out of it. Or not.
Tell me the good, the bad and the furry.
Pictures welcome!

We have 2 siamese cats. Best cats ever. Do it

Bugjune · 17/08/2018 02:39

I've heard two is better than one in terms of company for each other. I'm at home most of the time but still, I haven't ruled out getting two. Christ.

Bugjune · 17/08/2018 02:48

That's great! Pedigrees worry me a bit in terms of health issues, it's definitely the case with dogs anyway - mutts tend to be much healthier.

So much to consider isn't there.

WANT!

A cat and a dog would be my ideal set up. Good to know they get on! Did you get Mr Chatty first?

OP posts:
midgesforever · 17/08/2018 03:07

Yes. Just name changed as I haven't posted a picture before. Yes but cat is feisty so controls any dog he comes across.

Bugjune · 17/08/2018 03:09

Beauty and spirit, that's why I love Siamese!

Not sure your name change thing worked...

OP posts:
midgesforever · 17/08/2018 03:10

It was subtle!

Bugjune · 17/08/2018 03:10

Ignore me, it did work.

Is he a house cat?

OP posts:
Bugjune · 17/08/2018 03:10

Very, lol!

Yes mostly, his parents were. He walked well on a lead when younger. We took him on holiday and took him on country walks. He goes out to sun himself.

midgesforever · 17/08/2018 03:20

I wouldn't have another type of cat but hopefully we will have ours for another five years yet, they are a long lived breed.

Bugjune · 17/08/2018 03:28

He's basically a dog then Grin

I think that's why I like them so much to be honest. I lost my old man Cavalier last year and I don't think I could ever bring myself to replace him with another dog. A cat though...

A dog that sits on the side of the bath and shouts at you for taking a bath. My dog has a good guilty look if caught doing something naughty. Tell the cat off and he answers you back. He is super patient with dc but not adults he doesn't like. He will approach everyone to give them the once over!

Toddlerteaplease · 17/08/2018 08:21

Google the YouTube film of a Siamese owner taking a shower. If that doesn't it you off. Go for it!

Toddlerteaplease · 17/08/2018 09:40

I gained a 16yo Siamese girl two years ago after FIL went into assisted living and couldn't take her with him. She's getting on a bit now, she struggles with her hips in the winter and her black points have started to grey out, but still manages to catch rats and mice regularly! We have a large back garden and she doesn't wander far from home so is allowed out. I do think her memory is starting to go; if she gets up in the night she'll sit downstairs and cry until one of us goes and brings her back to bed.

She was an utter cowbag when she first started living with us - would bite, scratch, and attack just for walking past her or trying to move her off furniture. It took about 12 months for her to bond but now she's lovely. She is also obsessed with our JRxDasc and they sleep together all the time. Sometimes she'll come and get the dog and they'll go for a walk around the garden together Smile. She is absolutely wonderful and I'm hoping she'll go for a good few years yet (early 20s isn't uncommon for them).

100% get one!

Bugjune · 17/08/2018 15:17

She sounds amazing, TERF. You're a bit of a star for giving her a home too if I may say. I have in my head that boys are more affectionate than girls, is there any truth in that?

Toddlertea, I know the YT vid you're talking about. I saw it about 6 months ago and it temporarily halted my Siamese search, lol. Grin

I bloody love a bath though so would not appreciate being shouted at by a feline dictator, haha! Shock

Hello - what did you decide 're the Siamese in the end? Only asking because I've got two Siamese kittens coming to take over my home in a couple of weeks time and I'm excited but also anxious about it all! Just wondering if you got your Siamese and if it's all going well!?

greenlanes · 22/08/2018 20:44

If you are sure a Siamese is for you, then do look at the Siamese cat rescue places around the country. Mostly run by Siamese breeders or Siamese cat fanatics they vet very keenly where their fur babies go!! My Siamese boy was a rescue, had him now over 5 years. The first year we had him he shredded my stair carpet, and new sofa cover and then sprayed everywhere. I think he was settling in! He is now a lovely cuddly boy who loves a lap and a good play with his spiders!
