Garden deterrent

Hi,

I don't have a cat myself and growing up we had 2 indoor cats (huge house and previous nasty experience!) so I don't really know what to do.

We have 2 very young children and next door have 5 cats that seem to use our garden as their litter tray. I totally understand that my NDN can't really do anything about it but I'm getting sick of it to be honest. I've tried shooing the cats out every time I see one, squirting them with a little water pistol and even a homemade citrus spray that my dad suggested but every day there's more cat poo in my garden

What can I do that will work to deter them? Do those sonic things work and if so can someone link one that they can recommend or anything else please?

We do love cats but it's becoming very frustrating that our garden is covered in poo when this is one of the reasons we choose not to be pet owners. I don't want to pick poo up every day, I've got enough of that with a 2 and 1 year old 😂

I feel your frustration. And waiting to see if anyone has any ideas !

Next door had a cat that pooped in our garden. I started giving it cat treats. Switched to pooping in its own garden as it saw ours as a nice food-related place I guess.

Maybe it's irresponsible to feed someone else's cat but having to clean up cat shit while pregnant is worse, imho.

Is there a decent fence around your garden? I have an outdoor-indoor cat and wish there was a way to keep her from messing in people's gardens (she urinates in ours but that's all) but we don't have a fence and can't erect one. If you have a good fence, look on amazon for cat spikes. It's unfortunate you have to pay out but it's a one time expense. You could even ask next door if they would be willing to contribute if you're on good terms. It won't hurt the cats but would discourage them from climbing over.

I put a more secure gate up, chicken wire around the edge of the garden they got in, spikes and planted rue, touch wood been no poo since. I also have cat sensors in the front garden and when I see any cat I go out with my super soaker.

Sure-fire, bomb-proof, tried-and-tested solution....get loads of clear plastic bottles, fill with water and place everywhere cats are pooing. It will look like some weird art installation but it really does work (and I tried EVERYTHING before discovering this trick!)
