Would you leave a cat alone most of the weekend with a cone on?

Hey, just looking for a bit of advice about leaving my cat alone for 2 days with a cone on? She cut herself over a week ago and had a couple of stitches, has been wearing a cone since. Vets happy with how it's healing but I don't trust her yet not to lick at it and fuck it up.

We have an air b&b booked next weekend for a wedding and have arranged for a cat sitter to pop in Saturday and Sunday to spend sometime with her/feed her etc.

Ideally I would take her with us but I asked the host and she said no her sons allergic, which is completely fair enough.

Do you think it's ok to leave her with the cone on with just a daily visit? She's good in the cone, doesn't try and pull it off or anything, just lies around moping.

We have left her in the daytime with it on and she's been fine but are there any safely issues I haven't considered? Am gonna see what the vet thinks when she has a check up tomorrow too.

Thanks

I wouldn't, just in case she gets caught up somehow. If it is nearly another week and therefore two weeks since the injury, unless it is a huge wound, she really shouldn't need a cone by then. Even now, a week after the surgery, I am slightly surprised that she still has it on now.

Viserion - vets seeing her tomorrow and told us to leave it on til then.

That's what I wondered, if she'd get caught up somehow, I'm like 95% sure she wouldn't but still! 😬

I wouldn't. She could get stuck. Get the cone off. Any number of disasters!

No I wouldn’t. A friend’s cat, who was a bit of a tough boy, was very unhappy at wearing one plus being kept in. He somehow managed to charge the locked cat flap, breaking the lock, get himself partly out with the cone turned inside out. Luckily she was in and managed to sort him out without any further damage. He wore a baby gro after that. What about putting him in a cattery, where he can be supervised.

Partner has taken her back to the vet so gonna see what they say. How do they toilet in a baby gro?

I wouldn't leave my cat alone for the weekend without a cone, let alone with. The added risks are not worth it. Can you not ask a friend to mind her???

I'd ask for two visits each day. There's a YouTube video about putting a babygrow on a kitty. Basically you put it on upside down with the poppers by cats head, cut a hole and have the open baby head end over cats bum.

I wouldn't. When we had our first cat neutered, she kept getting her paw stuck in the cone (from trying to get it off I guess). I had to go home every lunch time from work to check her. Hopefully she won't still need it by then, but if she does, I would try and get your sitter to pop in morning and evening. Good luck xxx

I think you’d need at least three visits a day and then I would. Or find a cattery.
