Our 15 month older neutered male who we're had since 9 weeks is basically hardly ever at home anymore.
He has never been people cat but he knows us- is scared of anyone else. We live rurally so lots of open farm land to roam on.
Is it his age/ the summer months? or do you think he is slowly moving out? Hmm

My cat is 7, a little timid but polite. Past few weeks we've hardly seen her, it will go days before she comes home! I'm also whether it's the weather or if someone's feeding her, but she wears a collar. It's so unusual for her! She gets on fine with our 3 other cats so I'm considering getting a tracker incase she's being fed elsewhere.

Most of our boy cats were roamers, staying out for a week or three over summer, and MIL's cats would regularly spend the entire summer away as she lived backed onto fields.
They'd come back eventually, lean and sleek and desperate for some free food they didn't have to chase!
We only ever lost one to 'permanent roam' - he moved out to somewhere a couple of streets away, we'd see him occasionally. So that's one out of five, and he was a farm-bred cat.

I've barely seen mine, I rarely do during the summer months. Come the cold weather they'll stroll in like they've never been away looking for a warm bed.

ProperLavs · 21/07/2018 19:24

Thank you, that's reassuring. We lost his sister last November. She just didn't come home one day. He doesn't look like he's being fed else where, he's quite skinny.
I must admit that I wish he were more of a cuddly cat.

My two boys are outside all the time in this summer weather, I barely see them. They do pop back for some food once a day but usually late at night. They aren't eating as much though, they are catching things or just not as hungry.

Another cat of mine just vanished but was spotted living around the corner, apparently as a stray but looking very plump. He didn't really like us though - my kids were too loud.

Based on your OP I would say definitely his age and the lovely summer.

It's the weather. My cat is outside most of the time, coming in for food and cuddles when he feels like it.

blueskypink · 21/07/2018 19:35

My 15 year is so cat hasn't spent a night indoors for a couple of months. Pops in for food and water and that's it. Just prefers to be outside while it's so hot.

Our cats are semi-feral, one in particular, and we hardly see him in the summer, he only comes in the house to eat. As he’s got older he’s a bit friendlier and we see him more in the garden.

Both of them spend their days in the flower beds, we have a very shady garden.

ProperLavs · 21/07/2018 19:41

Very reassuring! Today was the first day we haven't actually seen him at all. Normally he comes in purely to eat then runs off out.
Ah well.

I am also leaving bowls of water front and back. (Rainwater, because mine are fusspots even in a drought...)

One has just emerged on the patio outside. He can get in through the cat flap but he prefers me to open the patio door, of course.

ProperLavs · 21/07/2018 19:59

Mine won't drink anything unless it is from a running tap in the bath. I have tried bows but he prefers the pond.
