DCat not grooming her back legs

We thought our 7 year old rescue cat was ill earlier this year when she fell a couple of times but investigations were negative and she got better.

I've recently noticed that the fur on the backs of her haunches and back legs is badly matted. She's still keeping the rest of her fur in good condition. Should I be worried? She's not obviously stiff or less mobile.

Thanks in advance 🐱

Why did she fall, has she got a bit of arthritis. Can she still get her back legs up in the air.

It is likely due to being a bit stiff, and maybe arthritic. Did she hurt herself when she fell?

Matts can become very painful for animals - the fur gets tangled and eventually pulls at the skin. Trim the matts off, brush the cat at least once a week (more often if it's a long-haired cat).

Thank you. Yes I'm working at the matts and getting her to let me brush her (she was frightened of the brush when she came).

She didn't injure herself, the vet went over her thoroughly. We really don't understand why she was falling (after £1k of investigations) but that's got better, she can jump on and off our 5ft fence with no problem.

Things have moved on: she had a major seizure on Saturday and has been odd and skittish at times since then. We've kept her in and she's slept in our room. She already has a follow-up appointment with the vet this morning. I'm not expecting this to turn out well ☹️

Sorry to hear about that. Wishing you and DCat all the best.
