Help! What can I do?

DCat (3.5 year old neutered Maine Coon male) seems to be constipated, or have a urine infection, or something. We've made a vet appointment for 8.40am tomorrow but he's so uncomfortable. Is there anything I can do for him overnight?

Background - yesterday evening we noticed he hadn't used the litter tray, and seemed to be a bit subdued. Decided to see how he was today, and he's slightly worse - just wants to sit in his tray, but doesn't actually go, and seems very unlike himself - not interested in dreamies, didn't rush to the door to greet DH etc. Phoned the vet this afternoon and they said they couldn't see him today, but unless it's an emergency, to bring him in first thing in the morning.

Now I've just seen that he's peed all over the floor near his litter tray. This is completely unlike him. And he's currently sitting in the tray. It's so sad to see him unwell. Any ideas? Sad

Okay so he's had an amoxicillin injection, a pain injection, and has more antibiotics and metacam starting from tomorrow evening. The injections seem to have worked wonders - he's his old self, but for the fact he hasn't peed or pooed.

Thanks to everyone who asked how he is Thanks

Fingers crossed he pees soon!

My male cat was like this - they tested his urine and there was blood in it but no infection. He had an MRI which didn't find anything.
Then they said that he was probably stressed - I'm his favourite slave and I hadn't been around much. Once I was at home more, he immediately went back to normal and he's been fine since.
Has there been anything going on at/around home which might have stressed him out?

That's great. One of ours had cystitis a couple of years ago and the injections sorted her so very quickly, I couldn't believe it. She was stressed as well, we were moving house and she's a sensitive little thing.

Oh wow - what you're both saying about stress is interesting, because the vet was asking that too. We were away on holiday last week, so I was wondering if that was a contributing factor - but, we've been away loads previously, and we have a lovely cat sitter who comes to the house and spends time with the cats every day we're away. She's been looking after them for almost two years so this is nothing new. But I didn't work from home at all this week except for Friday, and I was out a couple of evenings meaning they only had DH for company . . . but again, this isn't unusual.

Who knows; probably just one of those things. I just hope this is him turning a corner . . .

What's today's news, OP?

RedPandaFluff · 21/07/2018 09:35

He seems to be okay. He's had a pee, and a couple of small poos last night. Maybe the painkillers are helping him go, or the antibiotic is kicking in . . .

I can't believe I'm so obsessed with my cat's toilet habits - what would I be like with kids?! Grin

We're supposed to be out all day today but that's scuppered now. Need to keep an eye on him.

Awww. You know the old saying: Dogs have owners; cats have staff.
