Torn ear

My poor puss has just come home with a torn ear... would somebody reassure me that she'll be fine? I'm dithering between accepting her new alley cat aesthetic and ringing the out of hours vet. Photo attached (I think)... she seems wholly unbothered about the whole thing but is enjoying the attention.

One of mine has almost the exact same injury. Caused by her sister in a fight over a visiting cat in the garden. I found blood but couldn't find the injury until a couple of weeks later when I realised it wasn't a scab. I've just left it. Nothing to be done about it now it's healed.

I definitely wouldn't be spending money on the out of hours. It can wait.

Agree with the above- mine had a similar injury ( scratch/cut to the ear) but it hadn’t torn all the way through. Washed it with salty water for a day but it became infected and started to develop an abscess as it had started to heal over. The vet gave him an antibiotic injection and it healed well but they also said that if there is a complete tear they actually heal better as the bacteria don’t get trapped. They also said that as it was likely due to a fight/ bite to keep an eye out for any other cuts or injuries ( they couldn’t find any) and if there were any to try and gently remove the scabs (😳) and wash with salty water!

Keep a close eye on it but I wouldn’t go to the out of hours vet, especially if it isn’t bothering her. Let her enjoy the attention!

Ouchy poor puss! Definitely think I'd want it checked in case of infection, but I'm sure it can wait for a regular appointment.

Clean it with warm salty water twice daily. If it becomes hot, swollen or red or cat becomes unwell it needs to see a vet in surgery hours.

I think these are what cats get. Mines got one. I never treated it apart from dabbing it with salt water.

Thanks all. She's definitely not bothered at all, so going to keep her inside for a few days (in case she gets into another scrap!) and hope it heals without vets needed. She's definitely relishing the extra attention, I even sent out DH to get extra special posher cat food from the local Sainsbury's... no Aldi food for her tonight! Grin
