Hairball paste

So I got some of this to help Ollie as he's moulting and been trying to get a hairball up. It's got slippery elm etc in and appears to be malt flavoured
It says place on paw for cat to lick off. I did so. He blinked at me, tucked his paw under him and went back to sleep Confused
Um, do I just leave it on his paw?! He has no inclination to lick it off Hmm

You get treats like dreamies that treat hairballs too. Think I got them in pets at home

Ollivander84 · 12/07/2018 21:50

I tried the treats, he said "no mama, minging" Hmm
He's still asleep with one paw plastered in paste... snoring gently

My cat loves the hairball gunk, he hates getting anything on his paws so always licks it straight off, could you put a dash on his nose?

DwangelaForever · 12/07/2018 21:56

Ps where on his paw did you put it? I always apply on the top facing part, I knew of someone who placed it on the pads Confused

Ollivander84 · 12/07/2018 21:58

Top facing. I just tried his nose and he blinked at me again (FFS cat)

Nightmare! Hope you get sorted, my cat is "too posh" to cough up his hairballs 🙄🙄 apparently very common ins his breed (exotic shorthair) he coughs and coughs then swallows them again Hmm so hairball paste is a must in this house

dementedma · 12/07/2018 22:12

i just put it on my finger and he licks it off. he loves it. a cheaper option is coconut oil which he goes crazy for. any sort of oily lubricant will do and coconut oil gives his coat a great shine. Just a little though. if I left the lid off he would eat the whole tub and be really ill

Toddlerteaplease · 12/07/2018 22:14

Mine wouldn't touch it. I bought some Complivit paste for them. I tried putting it on Fatty's paw. It's more runny than I expected. It went everywhere including over me!

I alternate the Indoor kibble (already supposed to be good for hairballs) with the anti-hairball kibble. I also get them the anti-hairball Dreamies sometimes.

Toddlerteaplease · 13/07/2018 11:36

I've never ever had a hairball from either if my long haired Persians. Although I suspect that Snorg coughs hers then swallows them. Their food is supposed to reduce hairballs.

Ollivander84 · 13/07/2018 12:01

Ollie would get less if he refrained from ripping his stomach hair out. I did point this out to him Grin

Update - he threw up a hair ball over my brand new footstool while I was out. I suspect this was in protest

We're on holiday abroad with a cat sitter coming in twice a day and one of mine has pointed up a hairball on the living room carpet for her. He couldn't have done it on the wipeable floors downstairs of course!
