Why would kidney disease progress quickly?

My sweet old lady has kidney disease. She is 17. We found out a month ago I think. That was last blood test. They were redone yesterday because she was weeing in odd places again. They thought she had a UTI so she has had antibiotics recently.

They did bloods again yesterday and her levels have doubled. Plus she now has crystals. She is on special food. She clearly is not feeling well at the moment weep

But the vets are really puzzled about it. They say we could do an ultrasound. It might be deep UTI. Might be kidney stones. Might be cancer.

We lost her sister only a few weeks ago and I’m just not ready to lose her too.

Any ideas gratefullly received.

Kidney disease can be hard to detect how far along it is sometimes.

My wee one was diagnosed with it at the same time as hyperthyroidism but it wasn't until a few months later that we all got a shock as she had a scan and one of her kidneys had died but blood and ruin tests didn't show nearly how bad it was!

As for treatment as well as diets there are medications I think it's called forterkor but you'd have to ask.
