'Lost' cats

  • don't give up!
  • check microchip, vets
  • post leaflets and talk to neighbours
  • let local businesses know & put up posters
  • smear wet food along the boundaries of your property
  • empty contents of your hoover outside
  • walk around shaking a bag of treats and calling when it's quieter

Fleas

  • Best to go through vets
  • Indorex or similar is good for floors
  • on-Cat treatment OTC is best with frontline at present

Trays

  • separate ones for widdling and poo
  • water needs to be far away from food
  • litter tray needs to be far away from food
  • call around for them shaking a bag when it's quiet in evening

Anyway amend and adjust as you see fit or anything you want added, MN may give this a whirl as their first specific forum sticky! If it helps cats everywhere it's a good thing.

Oh no shit, people think it's advantage for fleas not frontline! Only first draft...

I've just added stuff to your other post

Fleas

  • Best to go through vets
  • Indorex or Acclaim sprays can be used to treat the house.
  • all over the counter flea treatments are useless and some can be dangerous.
  • the only effective flea treatment you can buy without visiting a vet is Advantage, which must be sold by a qualified person. So can be bought in chemists, Pets at Home an online.
  • flea collars - see my other post.

Neutering

All kittens should be neutered at four months. If your vet says six months then he/she is out of date as guidance changed some years ago. So look for another vet.

Even indoor only cats need to be neutered. An unneutered, indoor-only female cat is likely to throw herself out of a window or off a balcony when in heat, and will suffer psychological distress if she repeatedly comes into heat, leading to a sort of psychosis usually at around the age of 3 or 4.

worms

Should be treated every three months. Drontal can be bought in the same way as Advantage. Milbemax is more palatable and can only be obtained from a vet.

Don't use any OTC worm treatments.

Should be something about pet insurance as well

Make sure the microchip is registered!! It's your responsibility NOT the vet!

(As I found out when a dog I ran over had an unregistered microchip) Thankfully dog was ok and re-united with owner via FaceBook

And put litter tray outside or used litter to help cat home.
Tell microchip company if you move or change phone number.
Advocate for cats and indorex for house.
Worth microchipping when you neuter. And like catneuterer said DO neuter. Don't put your cat at risk and add to the unwanted kittens.
Remember cats can live over 20 years. If money is tight then insurance is a must. Life cover.
Dried food only made our boy cat unwell. They often don't drink enough water.
