Bully cat in the neighbourhood

So I’m not sure what to do. We have 2 neutered senior male cats (8-9 years old). We’ve lived here for over a year and our cats have had free access to outside for most of the time as I’ve been on mat leave.

One cat still prefers to be indoors, but the other likes to explore. This has been fine until about 3 months ago when a ginger tom popped up on the scene.

He regularly tries to dominate our garden and sits just outside the patio doors. Our outdoorsy cat has ended up in fights with this cat (one of which resulted in a trip to the vets).

Our neighbours have a female (also neutered) cat and this Tom has wandered into their house and helped itself to her food.

What do I do about it? I feel awful for our cats and when I did try at one point keeping them indoors the Tom just sat outside the patio doors taunting them. Annoyingly he always runs away when I emerge outside to chase him with a glass of water

I don’t know who owns him, either, so I can’t ask the owner to do anything. I’m half tempted to lure him, capture him and take him to a new county. But assuming that’s a bit unreasonable, what do I do? My poor cat is going to end up dead if this carries on (he’s a stressy cat who has had many trips to the vets due to urinary problems).

Water pistol from a vantage point e.g. an upstairs window. He'll soon bugger off if his stomping ground becomes less comfortable.

Lure, capture and get him neutered. 99% of these aggressive tomcats are strays, and the rest belong to irresponsible owners.

You can also ask a local cat charity for help with this, many will be able to facilitate free neutering or loan a cat trap to catch him. Are you in London by any chance?

My neutered male cat WAS the bully. We got him from the rescue when he was about eight and he'd fight anything, people, dogs, he was a brute.

Our neighbour two doors away also had a bully boy and they battered each other, costing us a fortune in vet bills and ripping the cat flaps out of the doors several times. They used to go into each others houses and spray everywhere. It never stopped until they both got old and died.

He will calm down after neutering and stop fighting.

Get the hose pipe ready and wait for the bully boy brute to make an appearance. That should cool down his punch bag paws!

As per @tillytoodles1 our cat is neutered but still fights - old habits die hard, and he was an unneutered tom until the rescue picked him up. So don't assume it's an entire cat, or that the owners are irresponsible, or that he's 'horrid' - cats are territorial and will battle it out, even cats that are big softies with people. We've asked our neighbours to spray with a water pistol if ours is trying to muscle in on their gardens or having a go at their cats and we have a feisty female cat who won't stand for any of his nonsense next door so peace has broken out for now until another cat moves into the neighbourhood. I'd continue to chase your intruder, spraying with water if poss, till he gets the message.
