Cat pooing in the house.

Hi, looking for some advice please.
My female tortie cat has started to poo in one corner of our spare room, she has also peed in there too.
She is about 10 yrs old but in good health, has access to a cat flap and she does go out.
She is quite a nervous cat. She used to be outside constantly when we lived in our previous house, but since we moved here four years ago she rarely goes out.
She seems to have changed since our other cat went missing 3 years ago. We also have two dogs who she rubs along well with.

Any advice would be great, I'm tearing my hair out. TIA.

This is a very obvious answer but close the door

Just prevent her going in there for now. Make her living space smaller and confine her to a room or two when she is in the house

Does she have a litter box? Cats are in quite a vulnerable position going going to the toilet, from the cats point of view. They can't run or look behind them. If she recently got a bad fright, as an already nervous individual, she will be reluctant to put herself in this position and may well not want to go to the toilet outside.

Either 1) close the door or 2) put a litter tray there. She has clearly decided it's her toilet area.

If she doesn't go out much, where does she go? Does she have another litter tray? Is it hard to get to, does she not like the litter anymore, is she scared of it, so many questions. Has she fallen out with a cat outside and so not want to go outside anymore?

Make sure you have completely cleaned up the carpet (and underlay if necessary with a pet odour elimating spray or she'll just keep wanting to go on the carpet.

Put a litter tray there, as PP said if she's already nervous and something has happened outside she may be too frightened to go outside

I agree with the above.. You might want to add a litter box.
