Sick of cat pee

My cat initially used a tray, then we got a catflap and she went outside.

I posted not long ago that she was being bullied and was staying in and peeing, so I reinstated the tray.

Today I gutted my dd's playroom because I could smell cat pee. She had pissed on toys and I've had to throw them away. I also found she'd peed behind the sofa.

She's just come in from the garden, walked straight past the litter tray, and peed in my family room.

I can't take any more of this! She's four, healthy, has a clean tray and the bloody back door was wide open.

What do I do?!

Have you tried Feliway? The spray is often more effective than the plug in.

Have you popped her to the bets just to double check she doesn’t have a kidney/bladder infection. My cat peed everywhere (favourite place was in my handbag - lovely) and it was a bladder infection.

*Vets

It is the worst thing about cats. I feel for you. One of mine is a sprayer and beats up my other cat, so she has to be restricted to the kitchen. It's a big kitchen, so her food, litter tray, bed, toys are all in there for her and her cat flap. Is it possible for you to keep her in one room or at least stop her from going into other rooms? This is one of the reasons I don't have carpets anymore.

Yes that's true. It could be cystitis, but then you would probably notice a lot of other odd behaviour. It's still worth checking out.

I sympathise, I had similar issues with one of mine earlier this year. What worked for us was:

  1. Chuck out whatever she's has peed on and use an enzymatic cleanser in the area.
  1. Vet check and discussion with vet about her behaviour. Vet recommended feliway plug ins (already had those), adding an extra litter tray (had done that) and prescribed a vet diet that includes calming meds.
  1. Change the litter to a different type. We had been using recycled paper pellets for years with no issues. Clearly piddlycat decided this didn't work for her. We switched one tray to a finer grained clumping litter. All 3 cats decided they loved it and we use this in all trays now. No accidents since the first time we put it down.

She is still on the calming food, I do think it helps, she is a highly strung little thing. She used to take being terrified of the hoover to new extremes, visibly shaking for hours after it had been put away.

Good luck

Mine gets cystitis with no symptoms but weeing in the house, usually within our sight.

I’d get a urine sample first, then go from there.

Thanks all. I've ordered another tray. I'm using enzymatic cleaner and I've chucked out everything bar the floor - although I do need a new edging strip for that now.

She's come inside and used the tray this morning, so God knows what's going on!
