Bloody local uncut Tom!

That's it, I've had enough & ordered a high powered water pistol.

New black tom appeared in the neighbourhood a few months back. Very vocal, yowls loudly often at night. Started coming into my back garden and coming up to the french doors in the living room. These are netted to stop mine getting out, but I've been worried enough by this bloody cat that I've reinforced the bottom bit with some wire mesh.

He started out by coming close, looking through the glass then lounging on the raised decking nearby. Then he started to come up to the door when to was open; mine went over to say hello and he hissed and growled at them through the net & mesh. Mine ignored this, just sat there & watched him "what you up to strange cat?", no response to him. He then started spraying the back garden & I caught sight of a rather impressive set of fluffy pom poms so definitely a tom.

Today the door was open & he came up, mine were upstairs on the bed. I went over there & he hissed and growled at ME. Didn't move away, just threatened me until I bashed on the mesh then sauntered off. He's also just been up to the front window (Flatcat installed) and again hissed at me before going to lie on the wall outside. He threatened me again when I went out of the front door, sprayed up the front of my house, then roamed over next door's front garden spraying as he went & occasionally looking at me as if to say "I own this".

Last straw was when I realised that the living room smelt nasty - turns out he's sprayed on the net curtain attached to the inside of the door Envy (not envy), presumably when it was open today & I wasn't in the room. Angry

So water pistol ordered by Amazon Prime. I'm pretty tolerant of cats roaming around - next door's cat uses my extension roof, others used to sunbathe on the decking - but since he's been coming round I've only seen even the very large evil ginger & white tom a couple of times, and none of the others.

Is he stray?.

viccat · 23/06/2018 22:20

This happens because people don't neuter their pets. Chances are he's not microchipped either.

Get him neutered and these problems will stop. If you're within the M25 it's free. If you need help doing it, contact your local cat rescue.

Of course you can neuter someone else’s cat. They should do it themselves but if they’re too feckless then cats aren’t property and it’s the responsible thing to do.

RandomMess · 23/06/2018 23:02

If it's not micro chipped and you think it's a "stray" yep trip to vets/rescue centre!

TheSpottedZebra · 23/06/2018 23:04

Are your cats neutered?

Allergictoironing · 23/06/2018 23:28

Zebra yes of course mine are neutered, chipped, and are indoor only. Still get their annual jabs too, just in case of accidents (like this one trying to break in).

I doubt it's a stray, looks in great condition and is certainly eating well as definitely not skinny. If I somehow managed to trap him (rather than trapping a different cat, there are plenty round here) and managed to get him to a vet to be neutered without losing any body parts of my own, I would have no way of tending to him while he recovered - there's no way I would put my 2 through the stress of another cat in the house (Boycat is a very anxious & nervous cat, and has very little brain so would get very upset).

I think I'll just have to chase it out with the water pistol. Hate doing that to a cat, but I can't have him spraying through open windows & doors & stinking my house out. I just couldn't believe how bold he was, hissing & growling at me in my own house when he was outside!

So would a vet agree to neuter a cat which appeared well fed and looked after, at the request of someone who is not the owner? Or would they scan for a chip and contact the owner first? And who would pay for the op? Genuine questions - I'm just quite surprised at the suggestion you could get someone else's cat neutered!

Unneutered makes don’t always live that long, they roam or get run over.

Your doing them a favour too.

One of our relatives didn’t neuter her Tom “he won’t roam” he roamed straight under the wheels of a Ford Focus. It’s fuckwittery and I’ve never forgiven them for it. He was a one in a million cat who didn’t make 6 months.

If you can afford posh skin care and to get your nails done you can afford £50 to get your cat neutered.
