My Alfie had a health check today, and I picked up his regular flea treatment, but the vet told me to wait to give it to him as he was wearing a flea collar and she wasn't sure what they use in that particular one.
It's one of those Bob Martin Flea Collars and his given stronghold plus from the vets, which I'm almost sure is just another name for spot on. Had to remove his collar and wait until Thursday to treat him to prevent these peskie buggers.
Anyone know if these 2 are compatable? Or should I just wait to treat him?

I wouldn't use the flea collar if you are using the spot on treatment. Mine also get stronghold plus.

Hi OP. Yes, don't use the flea collar and the treatment together. Treatment is better than collar. We don't use flea collars anymore and haven't for years. It's worth following the vet's advice and waiting a few days.

Advice is simple. Don't use flea collars. They don't kill fleas and they can cause harm to your cat - both to the skin and of course the strangulation risk.

Only use proper flea treatments such as Advantage, Advocate and Stronghold.

Thanks everyone. I will wait until tomorrow to treat him.

which I'm almost sure is just another name for spot on.

Spot on is a term for any treatment given by liquid onto the cat's neck as opposed to oral (by mouth), so covers a variety of makes & formulae of flea and worm treatments. Exceeding the dose of flea treatments can be very dangerous even if you are using the same type, and worse if you mix 2 different ones. I can be almost 100% sure that the Bob Martin won't contain the same stuff as the vet prescribed one!

Defintely don't use flea collars. As for treatments stick to those thecatneuterer mentions (never used Advantage but the other two I have and they work). The ones you can buy in supermarkets and pet shops aren't effective and can be toxic to cats.
If you are worried about the cost you could ask your vet to give you a prescription and buy online. The vet will charge for the prescription-this will vary ours charge £12.
