Cat maybe pregnant?

Before I get flamed, if she is it wasnt planned and I know its stupid not to have her done. We have recently noticed a few things different with our 3yro cat and only today just realised she could be pregnant. The reason we have only just questioned it is because she is an indoor cat and very rarely if ever goes outside when the back door is open. With the warm weather recently/ a few weeks ago we have had the door open more than usual, nearly all day and a hand full of times she went out to the back step and not much further. She hasn't been in heat in a few weeks which is unusual for her and her stomach has gone rock hard and round like a ball and bloated out. She went sick about 3 times two weeks ago (never thought much of it, thought it was a hairball and only just read that they can have morning sickness) we nipples have become more prominent, she has been hiding under a certain table more than usual and the main thing is when we touch her stomach we can feel, the only way to describe it is popping deep inside, almost like twitches in her stomach is the only way I can describe it. I know the best way to confirm is to have an ultrasound, i have been ringing vets to get a price and have found a company that come out and do the ultrasound at home, we are just waiting for an email back with a price as we couldn't get through to them. I'm hoping that she is not for practical reasons but if she is we would probably keep one and we know a few people who would take a kitten each. Needles to say, if she's not and even if she is she is definitely getting done (really should have had her done when we first got her) any advice or experience would be great, thank you.

Take to the vet for confirmation !

My cat just had a litter too they were 8 weeks on Monday.

In all honesty they don’t really take any looking after at all! I didn’t even know my cat had had them. I’d taken my dd to school came home and was putting clothes away when I heard something and she had gone under my drawers In my bedroom and had them! Put my efforts of a lovely blanketed warm box right out the water. I left her there for a few days and put her food and water and litter tray right near her.

After a few days when she started venturing out a bit I got them all out and looked Them over properly as I could t at the start and put them in the box and she joined them in there. I kept them up there away from kids until they were about 4 weeks and starting to wean then I moved them downstairs

All I’ve ever done is changed the towels and blankets and washed them in the first weeks then fed and watered them for the rest as Mum teaches them litter training etc although there are some accidents obviously. But they haven’t been hard work as such.

We have kept one that looks like Marshall from paw patrol

You can still get her neutered in early pregnancy before fetuses are viable to abort the pregnancy. Don't add to the cat overpopulation when kittens are dying in gardens with no space at charities for them all... Many people find it's actually much harder than they thought to find good homes for kittens.

Either way you should take her to the vet's because if she's not pregnant then something else is causing the symptoms you describe and that's a concern.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 14/06/2018 21:58

She def sounds pregnant and I think you are really irresponsible to not have had her neutered sooner!! It should be one of the first things you sort when you get a cat.

Anyway I guess you've learnt that the hard way.

HonkyWonkWoman · 14/06/2018 22:03

If you can feel the kittens moving, it is definately too late to get her neutered and abort the kittens. The thought of that is making me feel quite sick.
If her tummy is really hard and nipples have grown she sounds as though she will have them very soon. You don't need all the expense of the ultrasound just get a cardboard box, cut a "door" in one of the sides so she can walk into it but high enough so when kittens are born, they won't roll out and put a blanket in it. She will just get on with the birth and then feed them, clean them and everything herself the first few weeks.

Google information about it, for what to do after the first couple of weeks

missmorleyme · 14/06/2018 22:05

Girliefriendlikesflowers I agree with what you are saying, but stupidly I thought with her being a house cat she wouldn't get pregnant, but i cant keep the door shut all the time, so it's not her fault, its definitely on my head, either way if she is or isn't she is goin the vets and being done.

It’s so unpleasant and unhealthy for your cat to go through repeated heat cycles. Why did you not get her spayed, I’m genuinely curious? My mum got a kitten spayed 50 years ago, it’s not a new idea. We lived in the wilds of Scotland, the vet operated on the kitchen table and the district nurse took her stitches out.

If you have trouble finding homes, once the kittens are 10 weeks old, contact Cat Protection, they may have a waiting list for kittens, depending on where you are, or kittens may be dying under sheds because there is nowhere for them to go. They probably also run a neutering scheme if cost is an issue. At least you are not throwing her out on the street for getting pregnant through your lack of responsibility, like so many do. Start feeding her kitten food, she will need a lot of good quality food.

EmmaC78 · 14/06/2018 22:10

Even an indoor cat should get spayed! Does sound like she is pregnant unfortulately.

missmorleyme · 14/06/2018 22:12

HonkyWonkWoman even if she was just pregnant I don't think I could bring myself to get her an abortion. Her pregnancy rests solely on my head for being a moron and thinking that she wouldn't go out an open door and breed. I would keep one if she is preganant and do my damndest to home the rest and not add to the feral not homed cats that there already is.

I remember being told just how clever cats can be at escaping when they get on heat, and to have even a completely indoor cat done (i.e. a cat that never sets foot outside the house for any reason), in case they escaped. Same with vaccination, and mine get flea and worm treatment as well in case something comes in on my feet.

As chemenger says above, it's bad for their health to have repeated cycles without having kittens and NOBODY should be breeding kittens unless they are pedigrees (I know you didn't intend to)

missmorleyme · 14/06/2018 22:16

chemenger I would never throw her out, i take full responsibility for her getting pregnant, even though I never intended for het to get pregnant if she is, and subsequently it would not be the kittens fault either. Thank you for the advice, I will definitely be contacting them if she is and I cant home them. The reason we never got her done was because she is a house cat, she has never really gone farther than a few feet from the back door, the intention was to get her done soon, but tbh shit always happens then that gets put on the back burner. It's definitely a priority now though.

Even house cats need spaying as when they are in heat it drives them and any Tom cats near by crazy!! Plus you can never 100% guarantee they won't get out. Don't get cats unless you're going to neuter them.

fairylightsdown · 15/06/2018 08:54

Exactly what Girlfriend said. Get her neutered as soon as is feasible after her kittens. It's cruel not to neuter!!!

HonkyWonkWoman · 15/06/2018 09:44

missmorley you misunderstood my post. I was definately not advocating getting the kittens aborted. Someone up thread had mentioned it and I was saying that it would be too late and the thought of it made me feel sick.
Just thought I'd clarify that!
