Help! Young cat started walking on hocks tonight

Our cat is 7 months old and has been in perfect health up to now, all up to date on jabs/flea/worming etc
When we called him in tonight we noticed he was walking funny on his hocks then flopping down and lying with his legs out to the side after a few steps. I've tried to prod around and he's not reacting to any pain and has eaten, he was even trying to catch a bug in the house so doesn't seem uncomfortable.
Google seems to bring up diabetes a lot but I think it's rare for his age. Will be calling the vet first thing but just seeing if anyone has any experience of this?

I’m sorry but a floppy , wobbly cat needed urgent attention.

If you can’t pay for insurance please go to the PDSA for urgent treatment. I hope if I’d fallen and damaged my hips and spine someone would help fix me in less than 24 hours

We have and can afford insurance thank you, he was at the vets within 9.5 hours

9.5 hours of pain. People on here saying vet ASAP. And still you waited that long. Can't you see that wasn't a great choice. Sad

Perhaps not but at the time I did what I thought was right for that time of night and having a baby to look after. Either way it's done now and he's on the mend.

Oh fgs

Glad to hear he's on the mend OP

Wolfiefan · 11/06/2018 22:29

I'm afraid neither are a reason to leave a pet in pain for that long.

Gretol · 11/06/2018 22:31

Not sure why you keep banging on wolfie. The cat is much improved

Jaxhog · 11/06/2018 22:38

Phew! Thank goodness he's ok now.

Cats are remarkably stoic. Our first cat got hit by a car and still managed to climb in though his cat lap, up 3 flights of stairs and onto the bottom of our bed. He had a badly smashed leg. We had to take him to the vet on his cushion he was in so much pain. He recovered fine though. We've never let a cat out at night again.

But still suffered and the OP shows no sign of regretting that or thinking they should do anything different if faced with such a poorly cat in future. That's why.
