Cat flap -change of behaviour

We got a new cat flap last week, all the new problems of going in and out are sorted.

My quite gentle cat has turned into a monster. She caught her first bird and trailed it through the house, then I came back yesterday and she taken out a squirrel. It turned out it was playing dead, and she was watching it laconically to pounce again. I have created a monster.

I wondering if it is now the lack of dependence on us for freedom has now given her freedom!?

This is what I imagined would happen if I gave my 6yr old cat a cat flap as she has never had one! Contemplating a one way system where she can get out without clawing me at 4am every day but can’t bring anything home with her Smile

I too have a "psycho" tortoiseshell cat who brings in all sorts of gifts.... Much worse than the other cats past & present....
It's probably a culmination of having more freedom and her way of bringing you thankyou gifts ( which you don't want) and is a kind of showing off thing too - you (her family) other pets in the house etc etc
This is going to sound crazy but you need to have "the talk" with her when she's relaxed/quiet and you're able to just sit stroking her. Tell her she's such a clever girl BUT she's not to bring them in!
Sadly that "talk" hasn't worked with my Lady - neither has the screaming, shouting, swearing at 3am stopped her when she's jumped on our bed with a 'live one'.
We had to rescue a baby rabbit from under our wardrobe one evening. Confused
But "the talk" did work with all my other cats over the years and almost instantly so give it a go and have a firm voice.
If you're Lady is like mine though she'll just carry on doing what she wants to do!

Good luck xx

Just to add, we have a catflap we can lock so they can go out but not back in etc... The row they all made clawing at it, then crying/yowling etc I couldn't do it.
Plus my cats know home is their safe haven and have often booked through the cat flap at 100mph when something has scared them etc.

Bolted not booked

She's just so pleased with herself but a full sized squirrel! Although we did have a big black tom who once while we were away left a stiff completely perfect magpie in the middle of our lounge. The feathers were immaculate too and I have no idea how he got it through the catflap

littlebillie tbh a squirrel is a new one on me but I SO hear ya lol
One of my cats left the biggest rat I'd ever seen beside my bed (dead) in the middle of the night and made such a row to wake me up!!! It was as big as him! That's been the worst I guess because he always brought dead things in but my girl, like yours, insists on bringing everything in alive.
Although my nerves are shot to bits though, I wouldn't be without it. I just keep hoping and praying she grows out of it soon Hmm
