Help please, cat has gone roaming for the first time, how do I get her back in?

I rehomed an ex breeding queen a few months ago, she'd never been outside before but we let her in the (I thought) escape proof garden with supervision as I wanted her to be able to get some sunshine and fresh air.

The little shit has managed to climb up the shed and has buggered off, I can see her two doors down on heir shed roof but she's ignoring my attempts to coax her back with dreamies and I don't know how I can get to her!

Will she come back on her own as this is her secure base? I live in a city centre but not on a hugely busy road, I see other cats roaming around but Ivy is nearly 5 and always been kept in so isn't street wise and I'm panicking! Sad

Don’t panic. Put out some food for her and something she likes to sleep on. She will use her sense of smell to find her way home.

KarmaStar · 01/06/2018 20:26

Hang something you've not washed lately on the washing line the smell will help her find her way home

i'd just potter about the garden making chitchat about cooking delicious chicken for my lovely pussy cat to have for her supper, and then go back in and rattle her dishes about and make chicken slicing noises!

AnnaMagnani · 01/06/2018 20:28

The more you coax her the more she will dig her heels in.

If you ignore her and leave a trail of Dreamies and the door open she'll be back soon, especially if it's tipping down with rain like it is here.

Alternatively, my neighbour helps me out by getting her gundog to flush mine out for me.

Thank you all

I've put her litter tray outside and some food. I nearly managed to reach up and grab her but she got away from me and now I'm worried I've scared her 😕

Ok I'll sit by the back door quietly and wait. I'm desperately trying not to freak out! Thanks so much.

Roast chicken, ham, sardines...leave a few pieces in garden and a plate in house and go back inside.
Leave door open and stop watching!

UpTownFuck · 01/06/2018 20:48

Don't worry my cat went wandering a few weeks ago and I was worried sick I did everything put litter tray in garden/ unwashed clothes you name it I did it.
6 days later I stopped shouting for her and then she came home the next morning!
I know it's hard not to worry but she'll come home once she's hungry

PsychedelicSheep · 01/06/2018 20:53

Ok she's back! 🙏

Thanks so much for suggestions and helping me keep calm!

Tbh I've been wondering for a while if I shouldn't just allow her to roam? The breeder I rehomed her from said not to but I feel like maybe she'd have a happier life outside?

Has anyone else had an indoor car that adapted to going out?

when we moved I would let the cats out, but only after giving them a skimpy supper and they would go out before breakfast and I'd summon them back in sharpish with a delicious breakfast

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/06/2018 21:49

What breed is she?.

She doesn’t look a bit sorry.

PsychedelicSheep · 01/06/2018 22:09

Haha I think she's well pleased with herself!

She's a Maine Coon, not as large and hairy as many though.

I did wonder because of her ear tufts. She’s a gorgeous cat.
