Can I realistically turn an outdoor cat into an indoors?

We're moving soon, the area we want for schools and work is based around a lot of busy roads and it's my fear she'll get run over. She's a timid shy cat and doesn't venture from our quiet cul-de-sac at the moment. Am I being unfair to her by keeping her in all the time when we move? Sad

I'd say she'll tell you if she's not happy with it. Smile

The cat that stays with us would go stir crazy.

Yes you can. As a best of both worlds option, could you cat proof your new garden or build a catio so that she can enjoy some safe outdoor access but not wander?

How old is she? Our cat turned herself into an indoor cat - she's about 8ish and had always been very
timid. She seems more than happy to stay in now, although we do have quite a big floor space for her wander around during the day (and night).
I must say though that since being an indoor cat she's actually become less timid, and will actually come and see any visitors we have rather than hide like she used to.

I hope so because I’m about to do the same. We’ll have a small yard, which I’m planning to cat proof, but by and large he’ll be a house cat. He was always supposed to be but DH kept letting him out and he got to like it.

Oh good! She's 7 this year stays in over night and when it's raining just wasn't sure if I was being fair. Not sure how big the garden is or if cat proofing is possible but I have a viewing booked fo Friday so will definitely keep that in mind.

My chap had to become an indoor boy as he has FIV. He gets two walks* a day on a lead.

*By walk I mean I put his harness on and he mooches about to his hearts content.

I don’t think it’s fair and I think it’ll be hard for her to adapt.

Our dcat went from mainly outdoors to largely indoor at around 8-9. She started to struggle to get over fences etc.

Around this time we moved house to a house where it would have been a real ballache to get flaps installed so now she requests in and out and has a litter tray.

When I first get up I let her out for half an hour and then on an evening again. 9 times out of 10 she is waiting patiently to be let back in when I call her back

@YesItsMeIDontCare
Before my cat was used to outdoors I used to do that! Take her out on a lead around the close making sure she knew her way back etc Grin
