New cat around my friends area. seems stray

My friend has noticed a cat hanging around meowing outside her house. It's been out in all weather's and is skinny. She can see it's backbone. She lives with her mum who is allergic so can't let it in.
Wwyd? I think she should feed it.
I rescued a cat myself in the same state coz the owners didn't want her and she became a beautiful cat. I feel bad it seems to have been dumped

Of course she should feed it, for starters. Then contact rescues. However all rescues are very full at the moment, so feeding, a vet trip to get neutered at least and of course to check for a chip, and some sort of shelter in the garden if possible.

Where in the country is she?

Take it to any vet and they will check to see if it has a microchip, you could also see if there's a local cat protection or blue cross who could look after the cat. I would give it some food and put a cardboard box out which it can sit in.

thecatneuterer · 21/05/2018 14:15

Oh, but if she takes it anywhere she must use a proper cat carrier (perhaps borrowed from a neighbour?). She mustn't try to take it any other way, and definitely not in a cardboard box.

recklessruby · 21/05/2018 14:42

I have a cat carrier for my own cats trips to the vet and I think I will take it to be scanned for a microchip if I catch it. It only turned up lately so might be lost

My boo boo, meant a cardboard box to sit in the garden. You could put your carrier in the garden with a blanket in it and leave the door open, it might go and sit in there and then you can take it for a microchip check.

thecatneuterer · 21/05/2018 15:26

wormery, I know that's what you meant, and I wasn't referring to your comment. Sorry for the confusion. I always feel I need to point it out on threads like this as you wouldn't believe the number of people trying to bring strays into our clinic in cardboard boxes and the many resulting escapes, often on main roads.

For a start, if she could offer some food and water. Also, contact local rescue centres to see if they can take in, but also just in case an owner has been looking for their cat. Also, search online for any similar cats that have gone missing.

If you have a cat carrier (or can borrow one), it'd definitely be worth trying to get it to the vet to check for microchip, also the vet may be able to advise on best course of action if you haven't got anywhere with rescue centres.

Put a paper collar on it to see if it has an owner.
Get checked for microchip.
My old girl was skinny. If you fed her you could have made her very ill. Sick cat on special food.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/05/2018 16:01

Oh god yes do feed it, the poor thing must be in so much pain.

recklessruby · 21/05/2018 18:21

Have had a look myself earlier
He s an unneutered tom but friendly so I think is used to humans. I will try to catch and take to vet
He is adorable though. Loved a fuss
Maybe he has an owner but being an intact male has wandered in search of females in season

My friend shared his picture on a local group and he has been claimed by his family. Think he got lost and wandered

Wolfiefan · 22/05/2018 08:01

That's great!

recklessruby · 22/05/2018 08:39

Apparently he s a real character who wanders off and charms new people and he s not as skinny as she thought. Owner has claimed him now but she ought to get him neutered really and he might stop chasing the ladies!Smile

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 22/05/2018 18:06

Exactly. He wanders off all over the place as he's not neutered. She's lucky she hasn't lost him for good. Can you give the owners a nudge in the direction of the vets?

recklessruby · 22/05/2018 18:39

Will have a word as if you are on some benefits cats protection do it free at certain vets I know they give vouchers. He s definitely not a kitten. Looks around three years old so should have been done ages ago.
