One indoor & one outdoor cat?

Has anyone got an indoor cat along with outdoor cats? How does it work out?

I have a cat who will probably never go out unsupervised but I would like to get another cat, chances are that cat would go outdoors.

So I’m just wondering how it would work logistically? Do you think indoor kitty would get jealous?

I have a 12 year old cat who lives mainly indoors, and two, year old kittens who go out (and hunt, and bring things back, we are rural). Indoor cat has physical disabilities which mean he's unsafe outdoors, he can't jump up to the window we use for feline ingress/egress, so there's no logistical problem keeping him in. He sometimes frets a little about the kittens being out, and greets them enthusiastically on return, but seems mostly unconcerned, certainly not jealous. He does enjoy the gifts they bring him.

I have an indoor cat that never goes out. He could if he wanted be he opts to stay in bed 😀 The other one is out all the time. It works well. I just leave the porch door open so she can get in if needed.

I have one in and one out. Like previous poster when outdoor kitty comes home he is greeted with lots of sniffing.
I don't think they get jealous as such. They are way too egocentric animals. They are too busy thinking how their actions can benefit them to even notice their live in siblings have something they want.
Logistically it can be a bit of a pain but it's workable. If you have a coded cat flap it will let you control the coming and goings automatically.

You need a microchip cat flap to make it work, otherwise your indoor cat can slip out too.

Would cat proofing your garden be an option instead? Even special needs cats can go out if they can't leave the garden.
