My girl cat was hit by a car in September. She was my best friend and 8 years old. I am still sad and crying sometimes about it.
I have just had a comment on my Facebook profile picture telling me to cheer up! Have blocked nasty insensitive person but upset that people expect me to be over it now coz I have other cats.
I can't cheer up and smile to order coz it's summer. Just angry and upset tbh

I am so sorry for your loss. There's no timescale for grief. Would it help to do something special to remember her by? We lost a boy to a car accident. It's horrid. You're suffering but she isn't. And she wouldn't want you to be miserable. I'm sure you made her very happy for the years she was with you.
I think the Blue Cross do a phone number for those mourning the loss of pets. Maybe they would be a more understanding place to turn than FB?

Yes they are very good. Thing is I didn't post about her on fb but he commented my profile picture looked miserable and I should cheer up and liven up coz it's summer.
I have a memorial in my garden where her ashes are scattered and bright red flowers everywhere for her

Oh the memorial sounds lovely.
Some people feel the need to say "cheer up love" if you're not forever beaming from ear to ear. I'm always tempted to tell them to fuck off. Blush I don't have a sunny smiling disposition.
8 is just too young isn't it? We lost a boy to a car accident who was about the same age as yours. The driver didn't even stop. His mum lived to be 19. Obviously we were upset to lose her but it felt fairer to lose her after she had had a very long life (if that makes sense?)

Yes wolfie it does. My older cat is 15 so I know she will go one day hopefully peacefully but when they are taken too young it's worse and I feel guilty for letting her out but she always loved a wander

You would have felt guilty each and every day of you hadn't let her roam and enjoy life. I still remember the look on our boy's face as we drove off to have lunch out and left him outside in the sun. It was the last time we saw him alive. Sad

recklessruby · 19/05/2018 23:38

Aw that's so sad
My girl loved the summer and loved to hunt. I still remember her waking me up with a half dead shrew many times

We now have two naughty tortie kitties. They have presented me with a few voles! Shock

I'm so sorry. Wolfie is right, there is no timescale on grief and some people can be so insensitive. I was told a couple of months after my Mum died that I needed to 'get on with it'!

Your cat had a happy, well loved life with you and there's nothing you could have done differently Flowers
