Too soon for a new cat....

We had to pts our darling Fluffballmookins three weeks ago. She was 16 and it was her time.
We all miss her terribly, the house is too quiet without her snoring and the butter is still on our toast if we leave it to randomly do something (she could smell buttered toast from 500 metres).
Tomorrow we're heading to a local rescue to choose a new cat, or rather, be chosen by one of them (probably two actually).
DH is on AL for the week too, so new cat will have company for the early days.
I mentioned to a friend we were doing this and she said 'what already!!'.
I was a bit taken aback, we're not 'replacing' Fluffball Mookins by any means, but as a family our home feels just 'wrong' without a furry feline curled up on our sofa or tripping us up as we make our way to the loo in the wee hours of the morning. Plus we've 3 bags of litter and a 40 pack box of AGAIL sat in the utility room going to waste.
Plus, it's kitten season so rescues must be desperate to rehome older ones (we're looking for an older one).
Has anyone adopted a new cat this close to losing their much loved cat??

Everyone copes differently with the loss of a pet. You must do what is right for you.

There was two weeks between the loss of my dog and us taking on a rescue from Battersea dogs home. Some folk wait longer or some jyst cannot face the loss again.

I think it is great that you are giving a home to a rescue cat. They have so much live to give.

Nobody else's business. If you are ready for another cat (or two Grin) then go for it. We have four cats - I can't imagine living without one.

I'd never judge as everyone is different. When William was put to sleep DM said she never wanted another cat. That was on the Tuesday. On Thursday she asked me to contact Battersea an on Saturday we collected George.

George never replaced William but Mum was on her own and needed to fill the cat shaped hole in her life.

After my first cat was PTS I said I wouldn't get another one, six weeks later I got another cat. She's definitely not a replacement but a new cat to love and wake me up at 4am with furballs.

My friend has four and never can face waiting long six weeks has been the longest.

Good luck. A bonded pair would be amazing.

Do it! We lost our two recently and didn’t wait long to get our fluffy boy. Felt a bit like cheating at first but it just felt so wrong not having a cat on my lap.

Tbh OP I think taking on a rescue cat is the greatest show of love for your old cat. Your old cat was so lovely, showed you how wonderful cats are and what an honour it is to have them in your life.

It’s entirely up to you, nobody else’s business. There are so many cats needing homes, you’ll be doing them a huge favour.

You don't replace one that's gone, but you can continue to live with cats and love other ones. 4 months after having our old boy pts last weekend we came home with kittens. They aren't him. They never will be. But they are loved for being them and it makes me happy to have cats again. A house without a cat isn't my home so now i have my home again. Even though there are way too many small balls, there is cat litter on the kitchen floor and I've got scratches all over my arms and legs.
