Elevated STMA levels.

Fatty's bloods have come back as having slightly high creatinine and her STMA levels are at the top end of normal. She is on diuretics for her heart and is very well in herself. So apart from repeating the blood in a month I am reluctant to do anything else. Does anyone have any knowledge of kidney things?

How old is she? Possibly a renal diet would be a good idea, or at least a wet food only diet. Also a urine test to check specific gravity (i.e. how dilute/concentrated the urine is) although I'm not sure how the diuretics would affect that...

She's 7/8 it was at the top end of normal so I'm not too concerned at the minute. In view if her cardiomyopathy I'm reluctant for her to have any further investigations or treatment, as she's already in five tablets a day. I know she will have a shortened life. But I want it to be a good one. And she's very well and happy.
The bloods were done to check her thyroid, which is fine. Although if it had not been I would have treated that.

Tried wet food when she had her jaw issues last year. It was a nightmare as she wouldn't eat enough! Hence why she lost a lot of weight in the first place!

Fair enough. My vet recommended wet food and ideally renal food as soon as my cat's blood results for creatinine went slightly up and her urine was very dilute. She was much older at the time though, around 14.

Her creatinine is increased a bit but consistent with being on diuretics. She had the bloods done late in the day, and mainly drinks at night so I'm wondering if she was just a bit dry. I can't believe how well she actually is at the minute. Touch wood.

Oh bless her and you, they do like to keep us on our toes don't they?

I would just repeat the blood tests in a months time and hopefully the levels may have come down. You're doing the right thing by not putting her through more tests, I'm the same with Harry. All three of them have been through a lot - they told me owning a cat is relaxing...

Too right. I've had them less than three years and had nothing but trouble! But they are so worth it.

I know you've tried wet in the past, but any amount of wet you can get in the diet has to be beneficial for any cat.

Other than that I'd personally sit tight for a month and get Fatty retested. My girl had a slightly raised level of 15, she's regularly been tested since as has she has hyperthyroidism and all the following 5/6 tests have shown her levels at 12, 13 and the most recent 8. I'm not sure if SDMA is affected by time in the day or when they've just eaten, but like other results it can obviously go up or down. Obviously if you get another slightly elevated reading then come back. If she does have early stage CKD, it does't mean she's going to be on extra tablets, it'll be a case of trying to increase fluids, consider a renal food if appropriate or one with lower phosphorous.

She gets wet food as an occasional treat. The problem is that her sister is overweight. Trying to feed them separately is a complete non starter. We tried microchip feeders and they just freaked. They insist on sharing the same bowl. So they both have to have the same food!
I'd prefer to keep them on the Persian food as it's tailored to their needs. And they eat it with no issues.

It's so hard. Harry won't the renal food (I'm sure you're not surprised!) so we gave up. Luckily he eats wet food so we can give him Ipakitine but it must be so much harder with two.

I love the pictures, they are such gorgeous girls.
