Kitten very excited in the late evening

Just as the title says really. We have a 10 week old female kitten who has an eat-play-sleep cycle through the day. However at approx 10.30pm just as we're heading to bed, she turns into a wild thing. Her eyes dilate & she runs & runs, if we try to go to bed then she will run over our heads & pat our faces with her paws. Is this late night energy burst normal? I love her energy & playfulness I just wish she would "peak" slightly earlier.
Obligatory pic of course

Completely normal. Sounds adorable!

Childrenofthesun · 30/04/2018 22:10

Yes, sorry, my cat is nearly 2 and still has this crazy phase about 11pm. Could you try playing with her a bit earlier to see if she gets it out of her system a bit?

She is very cute!

LemonRedwood · 30/04/2018 22:12

Yes, unfortunately their natural instinct is to hunt when dark so the crazy comes out then. Once a routine is established then they generally settle down but the time this takes can vary!

Gorgeous kitty!

It's called The Zoomies.

It's how they burn off excess energy ready to snuggle down with their hoomins for the night.

MiniLeopardInTheHouse · 30/04/2018 22:29

So cute. Definitely normal and known as ' the Zooms' in our house. He seems to like us to watch this, and at times is like the cat version of the motorcycle wall of death. Also happens whenever he's had a poo.

Wolfiefan · 30/04/2018 22:29

Yep they do that. Be glad it's not midnight! Grin

ScreamingValenta · 30/04/2018 22:33

What a beautiful kitten!

It takes cats a while to adapt their activity cycles to your household routine. If you play with her a lot during the day, she will gradually learn when playtime is. She sounds wonderful! I love it when they pat your faces.

PeterPiperPickedSeaShells · 30/04/2018 22:37

Thank you, interesting about them liking being watched - I'm sure she thinks she is showing off to us.
She is totally adorable & very cuddly in the mornings after the school run.
Oh well, I'm off to bed now, DH will be trying g to settle her tonight!

They don't all grow out of it. My 8 1/2 year old girl still climbs the curtains every evening before bed.

InTheGhetto · 01/05/2018 01:27

My mum always referred to it as them getting the wind up their tail Smile

sashh · 01/05/2018 08:40

They are mad minutes in this house, and yes totally normal even the wide eyed wild look.

Want2beme · 01/05/2018 09:59

How gorgeous is she. Those little legs and feetsiesGrin

Kitties are so full of energy and nighttime is their favourite - not very helpful to working peopleHmm

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/05/2018 13:23

Awwwwww. She looks like a little bag of trouble. You can see the mischief in her eyes. There's no need for the cuteness of her feet

HesterShaw · 03/05/2018 22:33

Yes all cats I've ever known have had crazy fits at bedtime! Totally normal and completely adorable 😻

LimaCharlieHotelPapa · 03/05/2018 23:54

Oooh yes, that's completely normal! I remember when my two boy cats were teeney tiny kittens having to quickly pull my legs onto the settee otherwise I'd have lost my feet. One end of the house to the other and back again, constantly, any living or inanimate victims who got in the way trampled. Fairy elephants the pair of them. They did this until about 5 or 6 and now at 10 only do it about once every couple of days.

My Aunt's cat used to climb the curtains and the wallpaper (no joke), and on occasion human legs if left in the field of battle.

One of the joys of being a cat owner but I'd treasure it for the pleasure it gives them (if you're feeling impish try startling your gorgeous little kitten when she's in one of these moods and watch her jump 10 feet in the air) Grin
