What what you do re: Dcat?

I've been putting off this work for about two years and now it's unavoidable.
I'm having new Central heating thoughout, radiators, piping the lot. And at the same time a new kitchen.
Builder says house will not be liveable for approx a week, which is fine and I and Ddog am staying with my Dd, (across the road, facing).
I've got a nearly three year old, slightly feral, nervy, Dcat and am unsure what to do with her. She comes and goes via cat flap.
She can't come to Dd as she has two Ddogs and any way would probably get out and go back home.
I think she would hate Cattery and it would scare her to death, she is still very nervy.
So, do you think she would be ok to leave here at home?
Bearing in mind, she would 'take off' at the first sign of disruption whether I was here or not and come back in through the cat flap after they've left.
I would still put her food in her usual place and even though furniture would be moved about, she would still have access to sofas etc.
Do you think that it would work out ok and would be the best option for her?
Why I'm asking, is I just feel a bit upset, thinking she's being left on her own but truly she's so nervy there is no chance she would be happy anywhere else, she would just cry to be let out.
It's making me very on edge thinking about this so I hope you can reassure me.
Sorry so long!

Sorry thread title should read: What would you do.

We had building work done and one of ours tried to disappear under the floorboards. I wouldn't. What do you do when you go away?

HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 08:35

If I was away she would just be left at home and Ds would come round to feed.

The only floorboards being taken up are upstairs and she never goes up there.

would leave my two and pop in to feed

If you have a room you could keep her shut in that might be an option? Cats are buggers for disappearing under floorboards!

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/04/2018 09:21

I’d use a cattery, my highly strung Bengal settles well in them. The cat who took 6 years to accept my Dh wasn’t going to kill him despite us being together when we bought him.

When I go to pick him up I sneak up and watch him sitting there in the loaf of bread position perfectly content.

HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 09:26

Thanks everyone!
I think she probably would be ok to be here, if a little confused about what was going on but for peace of mind and safety, I think it will have to be a Cattery.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/04/2018 09:35

I would definitely put her in a cattery. I'd worry to much about her running off, getting stuck and jumping in to open vans.

HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 09:41

open vans????
Yes! I agree!
She's going to be confused and miserable anyway so she might as well do it in safety.

I’d take cat with my to DDs house, don’t let her out for a week, feliway plug ins everywhere

KirstenRaymonde · 28/04/2018 09:44

Ah sorry just seen she can’t come to DDs. Cattery best option then. Ash your vet for recommendations

HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 09:46

That's a thought KirstenRaymonde!
Dd had two free bedrooms as Twin Dgd at Uni.
So I'm in one and she could be locked up in the attic bedroom.
That could work!
Have to talk to Dd and Dsil about it.
Thankyou! Never thought of that idea.

OP posts:
HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 09:49

Kisten No she could have fun of the house at Dd because she's be terrified of the two dogs but I just didn't think about the spare bedrooms.
That would be the best option is Dd goes for it.

OP posts:
HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 09:49

Sorry, no! She couldn't have the run of the house at Dd.

OP posts:
lovemylover · 28/04/2018 09:57

Keep her in one of your DDs spare rooms, with a litter tray, at least she will have you there and you could go and sit with her and play with her,
I think its better than a strange cattery
When i have had a new cat that is what i have done, and they have been fine

HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 10:04

Here Suki is, with Ddog who she loves more than me 😔
I knew that there was a way so solve this but just couldn't think of it.
Thanks everyone!

Maybe let the dog in with her sometimes for company if shes close to her/him

HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 10:22

Oh yes! Buffydog is a total diva!
And gets away with murder when staying at my Dd's when I go away.
Her Ddogs are not allowed up stairs at all but Buffy is and goes on all the beds as well.
She climbs casually on their settees as well.
None of which she is allowed to do at home!
So she will be quite happy up in the bedroom with Suki. Grin

Where are you? If you are in Hertfordshire then Silverhills cattery is lovely and she would be fine there. She could be inside or out. I prefer the outside.

Euphrasia · 28/04/2018 10:33

I'd say the cat would be fine either way but if I were you I'd put her in a battery. It's obviously bothering you and you'd probably send yourself mad worrying.

Euphrasia · 28/04/2018 10:33

*cattery!

HonkyWonkWoman · 28/04/2018 11:29

Yes Euphrasia I think that she would be ok whatever, quite honestly.
You're right, I'm driving myself mad worrying about it.
I'm now worried about her not settling in the bedroom at Dd and yowling all night to go out.
Oh! Nightmares!
Every time I think I've sorted it, I think of another problem.
I think for my sanity (as you said) it will have to be a Cattery.
Round and round in circles I go with my stomach going in knots!
Sorry, this is probably just me focusing on one thing i.e. Dcat as I am massively panicking about the disruption this work is going to cause and dreading it.
Wish it would all go away!

OP posts:
viccat · 28/04/2018 14:10

Leaving her home sounds risky. I would either put her in a cattery, or ideally take her with her and keep her in one room (the one you'll be sleeping in possibly?) with her litter tray, food, water, toys etc.
