Flea and worm treatments

When I first got my kittens they got advocate flea/worm treatment with milbemax tablets for tapeworm. When I joined the vet pet plan they kept with advocate but changed the wormer to profender. One of my cats is long haired and the profender has been terrible for his fur (clumping and then coming out when trying to brush through). Then today when i went they said they were changing the plan and now the flea treatment was stronghold plus every 4 weeks and profender for worms but now only every 6 months.

Is stronghold plus better/worse than advocate and why only every 6 months for profender when it's normally every 3? And why am I still getting charged the same if I'm now only getting half the worm treatments I got before? And should I even be using profender on that cat if it ruins his fur each time? So many questions!

Stronghold Plus has cover for ticks, fleas and roundworm so greater cover than advocate. Stronghold is a good product just it and advocate were launched at a similar time and Bayer did a better marketing job than Pfizer.

It may actually depend on where you live and different resistance to certain medications.
My vet used to give me stronghold plus ‘spot on’ for ticks/ fleas and roundworm once a month for my cat and a milbemax tablet for tape worm every 6 months. One month after having the milbemax I noticed that he had a tapeworm (took me a while to realise what the ‘grains of rice’ stuck to his bum fur were until I saw one moving..... and then googled it!) . Discussed it with the vet and she said they are starting to have resistance in the area to certain medications and are therefor altering their usual regime to try and prevent this.
My cat is at a higher risk of tapeworm as he is a ‘hunter’ so he now gets alternate months of Stronghold - better for fleas and everything other than tape worms. and Broardline - better for tapeworms but not quite as good for fleas. This was three months ago and we’ve had no sign of either ( fingers crossed).
Mine is a short haired cat and I’ve never noticed any change in his fur but I would definitely discuss this with your vet to clarify why they have changed and their reasons for doing so, especially of it is affecting his coat.
