Cat flap in wall

We have just had new extension built and we're planning to have a cat flap in the wall, but in a new build the wall is 30cm so more like a tunnel! Not convinced she will use it there.

Don't think it will work well on the door as there are panels there so wouldn't sit flush.

Does anyone else have a wall fitted cat flap through thick walls please? So fed up with litter tray!

Yep. Stupidly I'd not thought about the length of it so ended up going back to the shop twice for extra tunnel bits - which cost as much as the cat flap, so it's only 75% lined. If I'd thought about it and spoken to the builder, I'm sure they could have done something about the inside, perhaps skimmed it? The cats are very happy, they tend to sit in the tunnel to view the surroundings before heading out.

Yes. We have one through the wall and our cats love it. The wall is 45cm thick and my DH lined it with waterproof plasterboard rather than the individual connecting pieces that extend the tunnel. We put a flap with no lock on the outside and the actual locking catflap is on the inside. The flap faces into the prevailing winds and the double flap stops draughts.

We have as it was there when we moved in. Harry must be deprived though, it's not lined, he just goes through the wall!

I have one through a thick wall, and I've even had constructed a mini cat porch on the outside of it, a bit like this i.pinimg.com/236x/93/c3/16/93c316ab5e2cac62cbacbd626e2e7043--doggy-door-ideas-doggie-door.jpg

My cats all use it without issue.

I don't have an available wall at the back of the house to do this - otherwise I definitely would. Instead I have to install a cat flap in the double glazing, which is setting me back about £420! Shock

I didn’t have a suitable wall and also didn’t have suitable patio doors (something to with the space available on either side and the amount of glass available to support the weight) so I decided to go for a window cat flap! We’ve built a shelf on the other side and the cat loves it!

Good to hear that other people (well cats!) are not having an issue with the longer length cat flap. I really would prefer it going there in the utility room than anywhere else. The waterproof plasterboard lining sounds good - didn't know there was such a thing. Thanks all.

We've had cat flaps through the walls in both our houses, and cats have used both of them.

Our wall is so thick we had to insert 5 middle bits between either side of the SureFlap and the cat used it fine. He had no choice if he wants to go out the back. Not sure he loves it though, and he does often spend a few minutes sitting in front of it peering through to spit danger on the other side.
He's actually such a big long cat that he can fit through with his front legs on one side and his back legs and bum out the other, with his body stretched through the tunnel. Looks so funny!
