So what happens at a cat dental then?

Mines booked for Friday. I’ve requested pre op bloods because he’s 9.

Moot point as they've rung me. 5 teeth out. Left hand side as I suspect & he's a bit groggy.

I knew it was the left side.

I always ring early, I'm too impatient to wait!

When can you collect him? Harry has coped fine without his teeth, they are so adapatable.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/04/2018 16:22

I picked him up early, he’s home now off his face on ketamine but he doesn’t like the vets so it’s better he’s here. They said 18:30 but I had shopping being delivered at 4 so they let me have him on the proviso I take him back if needed.

Apparently sedation didn’t work well on him so he had a ga for a blood test. They’ve also said to do a follow up only if he needs it because “he’s never going to let us look in his mouth again”.

Thank you for your support everyone, you fall apart when it’s your own cat.

I'm glad he's home, I'm sure they are better off there.

Harry isn't good with ketamine and it's now on his notes that he's not to have it. He's been fine with sedation and GA without ketamine but takes a long time to get back to normal if he has it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/04/2018 16:50

I’m not expecting him to really come round till 6. They used to send them out woozy all the time years ago.

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/04/2018 16:56

Harry took 3 days before he was 100% right, but then again he isn't like normal cats!

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/04/2018 17:15

They said several times not to let him out tonight, so people must do so. He’s already gone downstairs so I’ve hauled him back to the bedroom and shut the door.

Harry is one on his own but all the more loveable for it 😻

Glad he's home safe OP. Ketamine eh! Hope he's not in a k hole tripping balls Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 13/04/2018 18:37

The vet didn’t tell me the first time he had a reaction to ketamine. I picked him up, got him home, opened the basket and he staggered out and fell over. I panicked, and kept saying to DH they’d killed my cat (not that I’m a drama queen of course!) and ended up having to phone the vet to find out what was wrong with him. No one put two and two together about the ketamine until the new vet looked at his notes.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/04/2018 07:21

He’s bouncing round like a kitten and we’ve had lying under the duvet milk paddling me, which was really painful & lots of purring.

He’s eaten a pouch overnight.

OP posts:
Weedsnseeds1 · 14/04/2018 23:37

He sounds in good form, hope he recovers well.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/04/2018 19:08

He’s still taking himself off to be quiet but eating normal amounts and toileting ok, goes out.

I can’t work out if he still feels poorly from the ga or if he’s more settled because he’s not in pain now.

It took me 10 days to get over my ga.

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/04/2018 19:35

It could be the GA. As you say it takes a while to get over, I was still being sick 4 days later. It’s good that he’s eating and toileting, but his mouth is probably a bit sore as well.

Give him a stroke from me.

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/04/2018 20:34

Stroke given. He’s waiting for me to do his tray so he can defile it.

OP posts:
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/04/2018 21:20

Harry waits for me to empty his tray and he’s straight back in it. I’m sure he’s marking his territory!

I’m going to add Chief Scooper to my CV!

cozietoesie · 15/04/2018 22:50

PB now tells me when he wants his tray cleaned. (Usually when he's done a poo.) Grin

cozietoesie · 15/04/2018 23:38

Out of interest, Lone. Seniorboy - who was quite elderly at the time (16) - needed fluid support during the procedure. In fact the bill for that element was quite substantial. Is that given throughout?

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/04/2018 06:30

He is a bit brighter. He’s been in bed with us this morning & come down for food rather than waiting for me to take it up to him.

FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 16/04/2018 10:22

My kitty went in at 8.15 this morning to have her teeth out. I had assumed that she would be having her op soon after this but they said they do those ops at about 2pm! So now I'm fretting about her being in a cage around strange people and animals (who she hates) and hungry for hours. Sad

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/04/2018 12:54

It's a bit late isn't it? Ours was over by 1.30

OP posts:
FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 16/04/2018 13:15

I've just rung them. She's had her op and is in recovery bless her. I'm so glad it's all ok but I keep wondering what she's thinking Sad

On top of which our dog has developed a big sore swelling around an existing cyst on his side today, so we're taking him in to be looked at at the same time we pick her up. It's turning out to be a very expensive time for us!

They're such a worry aren't they when you love them so much.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/04/2018 17:35

She’s probably still got ga in her and isn’t thinking too much. Have you got her some nice food for later?.

OP posts:
FatBallsAndSunflowerSeeds · 16/04/2018 18:20

She's home! She seems alright, walking normally, and she's just eaten two plates of finely chopped chicken that I roasted especially for her. She had three teeth out and a little cyst in her mouth drained.

I've got it all again on Thursday though- the dog needs to have his lump off under anaesthetic. That will be even worse because he's with me all day and follows me around Sad

Threetoedsloth · 16/04/2018 19:34

Our Boycat is due a dental. He can't have ketamine because it makes him utterly, utterly loopy. All three of ours are raw fed which means they don't get a good crunch going on to remove the tartar. Our biscuit fed predecessors always had lovely white gnashers (and CRF............) We have just added in some Orijen biscuits once a week to see if that helps with the pearly less than whites.
I shall be popping in here to be propped up whilst he's having his dental. Oh my boy, my boy.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/04/2018 19:53

Sad It’s so traumatic. Dentals ought to come with post op wine for us owners.
