Fatty's coat

Fatty has always been a bit prone to dandruff, but since have an allergic reaction to something a couple of weeks ago her coat looks terrible. It's still shiny but it's not quite right in the way it sits, (if you get me) and her dandruff is big flakes. She's still got bald Patches but they seem to be growing back. She has special Persian food, occasional sachets, and salmon oil on her food. Anyone else got any other ideas?
She's her usual self and eating well.

Evening primrose oil? You can get capsules formulated for cats.
Also vitamin E.

I agree with weedsnseeds1. My previous cat had awful dandruff when he was getting elderly, and the oil of evening primrose capsules from the vet cleared it up a treat. He was beautifully glossy right up to his death at the age of 21!

Oo thanks, I'll try it.

I must look a little like Fatty at the moment (but nowhere near as gorgeous obvs). I must get some Evening Primrose Oil, but I also have a shampoo with a fungicide in it that is helping somewhat. Apparently, this is often the cause of dandruff.

Babdoc · 27/03/2018 09:32

Please don’t shampoo your cat, he will try to lick it off while grooming and potentially poison himself!
Dandruff in humans is indeed often fungal, but that flaky skin condition in cats is more usually just down to dry skin and lack of natural oils.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 27/03/2018 09:53

Oh I wasn't suggesting that she shampoo poor Fatty! No Fatty! I'm on your side! Just that the cause may be fungal...

Toddlerteaplease · 27/03/2018 10:23

Don't worrry, I won't be shampooing her. I value my life! I think it's just dry skin, but salmon oil usually sorts it out. But doesn't seem to be enough at the minute. Will have to up her wet food intake. They'll love that! (Except for when she had to have soft food coz of her jaw, and they would barely touch it!)

Lottie is 18.5 and over the last couple of weeks I've noticed dandruff as well. Is there anything that's safe for cats and worth trying over the counter rather than through the vet? She's been three times in six weeks, so I don't think she'd appreciate another trip!

Salmon oil has worked wonders for Fattycat In the past. I put a few drops on their biscuits and you can see the difference within a couple of days. It's also the only supplement I can get down her. I get it from zooplus. Can't remember the brand though.
