Does anyone here have a hairless cat, like a Sphynx? Could you tell me what they are like, special care involved etc? Pics would be ace too if you want! Many thanks.

Irl I seem to be the only person I know who thinks they’re lovely.

I looked after one, I didn’t like the way it felt when you stroked it, sort of rough and slightly greasy. She also left little greasy stains where she sat and had to wear a jumper even inside.
Wouldn’t be my first choice of cat !
I think regular bathing and moisturising would be the way forward but what cat likes that ?

Hmmm, that doesn’t sound great! I think I need to meet one in person.

Well I think you're always better off with a moggy. And I don't think any sort of breeding should be encouraged - particularly the breeding of cat that can't survive outside.

It would mean it would have to be kept as an indoor only cat and unless you live in a flat that is very difficult to do. And we get lots of posts on here about indoor only cats that have escaped, even from flats. If that were to happen then, unless you were to find it very quickly, it would die of hypothermia.

So unless you live in a flat, and you can put cat proof mesh on your windows, and you don't have a balcony, then you shouldn't even consider it.

Why not go to a rescue and meet some cats and get one whose personality suits your situation.

If you are really, really set on a hairless one then there are probably specialist rescues for that particular breed, so at least then you wouldn't be paying (often unscrupulous) people to bring yet more cats into the world. But, even with a hairless rescue, you would still have to be very, very sure that it could never get out.
