Regrettably I've gotten myself into a debate online irt Adopt Don't Shop.

As we are once again hitting kitten season and I see post after post of 'my cat is so cute so I got it pregnant and now I want to sell it's offspring for cash'

Is there anyway to comment on these posts/threads which can give the potential buyer something to think about. Or am I just wasting my time? Maybe somebody more informed can give me reputable statistics, quotes or links to follow. Tia

Grrrr those people deserve to be granted at. Idiots. Where are these people posting??
I'm trying to find something I saw recently which shows how many offspring one cat can be responsible for if each litter is 4 kittens. If I find it I'll post it.

WhiteRabbitWhiteRabbit · 19/03/2018 23:46

It's on a local buy and sell page 🙄

Basically - wanted - two female kittens.

Majority of posts are people with currently pregnant or recently delivered cats selling off their kits, hun. Angry

The few posts about 'adopt don't shop' or ones giving local and uk wide rescues have been shot down.

Currently arguing against 2 idiots who don't believe in kitten season, believe their cats need at least one litter to be 'maternal and mature' Angry and believe they are helping and that all thier kittens will be homed for substantial profit and loved forever. All to a random off the internet

Bloody hell, it just never ends, does it! All they see is £ signs and no regard for an animal's health and happiness.

Every year cats start breeding from the beginning of April right through to November. It only takes one unneutered female to be out of the house and she will have the attention of all the tom-cats in the area. ”One tomcat can service nine females a night and the results of these couplings then start breeding themselves.” This means 50 births in six months and nine months after that there will be 200. After another nine months there will be 1,000 all from that one male having had its fun for the night.

These poor kittens could end up in awful situations. I don't even want to think about it. There's so much animal cruelty in the world.

Those stats are scary, my boy was a Tom when we adopted him, I dread to think how many poor female cats he harassed before we got him done.

Those people claim to love cats but they don't seem to love all the strays and abandoned cats trying to fend for themselves on the streets - they were all cute kittens one day...

One of the biggest problems with kittens sold like that is the new families then won't neuter in time themselves and end up with a pregnant cat and more kittens... Most people don't realise kittens can reach sexual maturity around 4-6 months of age, and they will breed with their siblings too.

There are lots of online articles about the potential health problems and risks of leaving a female cat unneutered and letting her get pregnant. For example mammary gland tumours are much more likely in those cases. There are zero health benefits from having a litter of kittens.

Thanks everybody, all very useful info. Even if these two fools don't take any notice others might. I've gained three allies but the battle is on going. I'm starting to realise there is no arguing with stoopid.

There really isn’t. There’s a certain demographic who do it too.

Wolfiefan · 20/03/2018 16:51

How about pointing out the potential risks to their cat and the vet costs involved?
People like that only care about the money.
Personally my cats have never shown any desire to be hunted down for sex by random tomcats, possibly getting injured and then go through pregnancy and birth. Confused
