Any advice on how I can get her to stop? She’s 5 in good health, presumably.

Moved into town from the country (she loved it as she was a hunter) 2 months ago and she doesn’t much like outdoors now, so uses the litter tray. Except when she doesn’t... she’s taking to peeing in one particular room, maybe once every 2 weeks or so. She did it again tonight and I checked that she still had access to tray (she did) and that it was clean (it was) - I’m not sure what I can do to stop it, or why she’s doing it.

Ideally we’d have no tray and she’d go outdoors, but she really doesn’t want to go out much.

Put a tray in the room she's peeing in. Usual tray advice is one per cat plus one.

Get her checked for a UTI at vets as she might be stressed and this can cause UTIs in cats.

Try Feliway maybe?

Be patient. She's lost her territory and town life is a whole new world for her.

New room she’s pee’ing in is the dining room so can’t really have a tray in there as the smell lingers & it’s thick like carpet. I’ve never had that rule before had cats all my life.

I wondered about feliway so might just go for that, yes that’s a point I’ll get a sample kit & litter from vet thanks 😊

To be fair to she was a town cat for 2 years before we moved to the country, but I think she’s a ‘country cat’. Hopefully she comes round soon, maybe better weather will encourage her out...

You need a tray. Keep the dining room door shut. Try Feliway and vet to rule out UTI.
If you've moved she may not feel safe enough to toilet outside yet. Any other cats around.

Have you had her checked for a UTI? Moving house is very stressful for people and cats, and stress induced UTI is not uncommon.

Bigzzzzzzz · 17/03/2018 22:33

We have a tray, she digs the carpet up if it’s shut but I’d worry she’d find somewhere else to go instead - at least I know to look for it in dining room.

I’ll get checked for uti this week. I’ve seen her pee outdoors a couple times but maybe she doesn’t feel safe? As she’s only down it (hat I’m aware of) if im in the garden. There’s a few neighbor hood cats. She can and does use her tray every day though.

This is her 3rd house move and never had this before so maybe is a uti.

Ours used to dig up carpet if the door was closed. (Before they were neutered we would shut them in a room before opening the front door!) We got an offcut of Lino and slipped it under the door so they couldn't get to the carpet!
And make sure to clean wee stains with an enzyme product.

I had a cat that just took to sneaky peeing in corners everywhere, despite having litter trays and free access to outdoors. We tried Feliway, p-off enzyme spray to clean up after etc. Nothing helped, there must have been something unknown outside that was triggering her behaviour. We had to keep her confined to downstairs and we would put things in corners like houseplants etc to deter her.

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/03/2018 20:02

Check for uti first, then go from there.

LEMtheoriginal · 18/03/2018 20:06

I think feliway will help. Also you need to clean the area with biological washing powder. Let it dry and then dab with meths.

Is her litter tray near her Food? Cats dislike that.

Can you keep hee out of that room?

Following as I'm about at the end of my tether with our pissing cat ! I'm sick to death of her doing it in same spot over and over despite having clean litter etc I'm ready to rehome her . It's my dd cat and I hate the damn thing but tolerate it for dd but my patience is wearing thin now

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/03/2018 20:29

Have you had her checked for a uti? A urine test is £8 at our vet.

She might have had cystitis all this time.
