Cat scared of snow and blizzard has wee'd in house

I'm feeling really guilty. My 2year old, pretty much feral cat who has been scrupulously clean from when she was rescued from stables at 3/4 weeks has just wee'd on the dogs bed, in front of me.
The snow and blizzard and horrendous howling winds is really bad and I am actually snowed in (Pennines) but she has been going in and out. I did wonder at one point if she would be scared but then dismissed it.
Anyway, just sat reading and she made a funny weird yowl and I thought she was stuck somewhere but she appeared and went over to the dogs beds (spoilt dog has one in every room) where she sometimes sleeps and started kneeding it.
I just looked over and thought she was going to settle down, then glanced over and she was obviously in "pee stance".
Here's where I'm a bit upset with myself, because I jumped up and shouted a loud "Noooo". She shot off behind the settee and I mumbling something like, "What the hell" grabbed the bed and threw it on kitchen floor to wash (big padded thing so 2 washes).
So then I dug out an old covered litter tray, luckily still had half a bag of litter and put it where she would see it as I realised now she was scared to go out.
Next news, she scoots across the house and out the cat flap, the weather is horrendous, I've frightened her and she's not been back for 2 hours.
I'm so upset with myself for scaring her!!!!
Do you think she'll find shelter till she feels able to come back in. She's never, ever been shouted at before.

Well, she's back. Strutted in like nothing wrong.
Have shown her the litter tray and as she hasn't used one since she was a couple of months old, I hope she realises what it is!
Just to let you know!
Anyone!
Helllooooooooooo! 😕😕😕

Poor girl, if she hasn't seen snow before she must be worried!

HonkyWonkWoman · 01/03/2018 16:07

I thought that she was ok as its been snowing here since Tuesday and she's been going in and out of cat-flap.
But today is horrendous! Gale force winds blowing snow around and drifts.
She's safe and sound now though and she can use the litter tray for now.

I'm glad she's back. Poor girl. I wouldn't want to piss outside in this weather either! I'm glad you've found a litter tray for her.

BlueKarou · 01/03/2018 16:23

Glad she came back. I totally get the instinctive yell; I do it whenever a dog or cat starts making the oh so familiar retching noise - first thought is always to protect the soft furnishings, then to check whether said creature is ok.

HonkyWonkWoman · 01/03/2018 16:42

Yes, I know what you mean thecatneuterer! 😂😂😂 Got the old litter tray in the garage with luckily half a bag of litter in it.

BlueKarkou yes, it was instinctive and I felt so bad when she hid behind the settee but I thought that she would get over it and come out again. I was calling her but she just looked away from me.
Btw I have never got to the dog or cat in time when one had started the retching sound and it just makes them run and spread it around.
The joy of animals eh! 😁😁😁

Well two of mine (Obie hasn't appeared for two days...I am confident he will be at Thelma's!) are not going out ...I opened the back door and both looked at me like WTF!
They have litter trays.

Portia however has just peed on the landing and gave me a 'so what' look and watched me clean the carpet before she sauntered back to my bed!!! I actually caught her in the act!

HonkyWonkWoman · 01/03/2018 23:06

That's just what Suki did StillMedusa just sat there in front of me and casually peed.
Her litter tray has been there for over a year and she hasn't used it since having the cat flap in and I only put it in the garage a couple of months ago.
I should have thought with this extreme weather she wouldn't want to go out.
Lesson learnt!
Cats are good at teaching us silly humans, aren't they! Grin

I have actually ended up putting a third litter tray down (for one cat) after I realised she was scared to go in the utility room (which has French windows facing the garden). She was also scared to go to the bathroom one as the wind was booming down the pipes. So Herself now has a third option in the quietest area of the house and has stopped crossing her paws. I have a sweet little Scaredy Cat, don't I?

Silvercatowner · 04/03/2018 09:13

Our 18 month old rescue cat has just done this twice over the past couple of days. I can understand her not wanting to go out in the snow but the snow has gone now - i think it may be laziness/habit Hmm

ShiftyMcGifty · 04/03/2018 09:18

Ours peed on the bathroom mat overnight and I actually want to hug her for it. Went to put it in the wash (machine is in garage) and found a burst pipe and a flooded garage. Wouldn’t have discovered it until tomorrow, had she not peed on the mat.
