My poor bullied cat

I have an absolutely enormous 7 year old boy cat who is definitely a lover not a fighter. He has always been anxious and fearful, improved somewhat as the dc got older, but still very timid and intimidated by other cats.

We've had various problems over the years with cats invading the garden, but we are now enduring what feels like a siege from three neighbour cats, who are invading not only the garden but coming into the house, sauntering upstairs. They are not remotely scared of us. Humiliatingly, two are kittens (7 months old) and my cat is completely terrified of them.

HIs life is a bit of a misery right now, as he can't go into the garden without getting beaten up - and he used to so love the garden.

So: can I ask for some practical solutions, please? Right now I'm keeping the catflap blocked so they can't get in (I've had three microchip ones but they all got broken really quickly, so I've given up with them). If I see the cats in the garden, I spray some water at them. Of course, in the end I can't keep the cats out of the garden, but I really don't want to have to get a litter tray for my cat - he's so young to give up enjoying the evening breeze on his whiskers. I've considered building a kind of cat run into the garden, so he can at least pee without getting attacked? Any other ideas very gratefully received.

It's horrible when that happens, you feel so protective.

My cat's very sweet and used to get bullied, if I heard another cat attacking her in garden/house I'd run out and roar and hiss at them. And speak to their owners.

Other posters might be able to advise on catflaps

Building a "catio" is a good idea if your garden layout allows it Smile. Nice large pen leading from the cat flap so he can go in and out as he wants and the neighboring bullies can't get to him or the flap. You can really go to town if you want & make it into a sort of cat heaven with climbing stands, a little hut, shaded bits and sunny bits, some grass for him to chew on, a few toys out there...

If I had the money & garden layout that allowed it, that's what I would be doing for my two Grin

Cat proof netting on top of your fence?
Mine is a fighter not a lover. But the cat proofing works to keep potential victims from getting in as well as stopping him getting out

Catio or DIY cat proofing. Your poor boy.

Catio is an excellent plan Smile

We had a bully of a cat that would come in and beat the living daylights out of my two at 3am. Gave my little girl cystitis. Vet recommended catching the bugger, put it in a pet carrier and put it in a cold shower for 5 mind. We did this twice before we never saw him again.

Lock the cat flap, accompany him in the garden, spray the intruders, I would get a litter tray if it's causing him stress, catio sounds great.

Wow Screaming that's hardcore Shock.

Mind, I'm probably going to let the kids have some target practice with water pistols...
