Stray cat- what do I do

When it was snowing last week, a black kitty was crying from under the house (I have a little under house type cellar bit only accessed from outside) obviously I let it in as I'm soft. But now it won't leave!

I've taken it to the vet, no microchip, they say she's female around 9-12 months old and has definitely been looked after and probably lost her way in the snow.

I've put adverts on Facebook, given a description at all local vets and put up photos...and no one has come forward.

I can't keep her, as my Tom is horrible to her 🙁 she's such a lovely little thing too.

So what do I do with her? Can I advertise her to a free home? Just stop letting her in?

You can't just leave her out in the cold, the weather is going to get bad again. Do you have somewhere she could live away from your own mog , why doès he hate her. You could take her to cat protection or any rescue centre to be rehomed. Poor little soul.do you know anyone who would like to adopt her.

retirednow · 31/01/2018 20:31

Where in the country are you.

Want2beme · 31/01/2018 20:37

Aww, she's cute. You've done a lovely thing letting her in, especially in this freezing weather. All of my cats have been opportunists, just turning up at the door and I've kept them, even if they don't get along. My current 2 cats don't get on & I have to keep them separate. It's not ideal, but when there's nowhere else for them, it's impossible to leave them outside. You could contact local rescues and see if they can help. I wouldn't advertise anywhere for a new home. There are some awful people out there who could use her for goodness knows what.

She’s lovely - well done for saving her. Definitely don’t advertise her as free to good home though, some unscrupulous people acquire cats this way for evil purposes. A rescue centre would be able to link you up with a vetted home for her.

Thanks for the replies, our house is all open plan downstairs so impossible to keep them apart.

I'm not sure why our cat has taken such a dislike to her, he's only 5 months himself. The vet said it was a territory thing.

She's so loving too, always wants to be on your lap, and follows you round the house just wanting to be near someone.

I will give the rescue centres a ring this weekend Thankyou.

I'm in Yorkshire.

She will need to be neutered quite urgently. This is the prime season for cats to get pregnant.

So yes, she will need to go to a rescue if you can't keep her. But if there is going to be any delay with that then get her neutered yourself. If money is an issue there are some charities that might be able to help with the cost.

And don't advertise her anywhere as others have said.

Your tom would get used to her if you wanted to keep her. You would need to start her off in a big dog crate for a couple of weeks to let them get used to each other. But whatever you do, make sure she is neutered asap.

retirednow · 31/01/2018 21:26

Have you tried a feliway to,see if it would help Tom to like her, has he been neutered.

eyesonme · 31/01/2018 21:42

Tom has been booked in for neutering next week, as he will be six months old then and they wouldn't do it before then.

I really can't keep her, as much as the kids would love to.

I was just thinking that too!! I bet once’s he’s been done he would be ok with her. Is there anyone at work or in the family that would take her?

eyesonme · 31/01/2018 21:57

I'm going to ask at work tomorrow but no family to take her no

Can you get her neutered before she goes anywhere assuming rescues can't take her immediately?
