So any advice welcome!

Some friends of ours are emigrating and aren't able to take their cat with them so we've agreed to take him in. He is about 8 yrs old and used to a busy noisy family (so no concerns there) Currently the cat and the family live less than a mile from our house (same village)

Dh has had cats before and is very of the It'll be fine opinion but I just wondered if anyone has any advice or could point me in the direction of some good info on settling cats.

Thanks

Well whilst we tried to take all the advice on board aboit keeping him in for several weeks dcat has other ideas and has been happily popping in and out of the house since Thursday. Responding well to jangling of keys when it's time to come in and so far hasn't strayed far.

Next challenge is the vet tomorrow as we don't have the microchip number and I think I might see if they will worm him for me as he hasn't been done in a while.

Crafty thing conned us out of 2 breakfasts this morning and ate the lot Grin.

It's good to hear that your training is coming along nicely. The next stage is learning that DCat sits wherever DCat wishes, and if you happen to be in the way you will move. Am sure it won't be long til that lesson's learnt!

Hope everything went well at the vets today.

I had said no sleeping on the beds. And then ds bed only. And not on the kitchen table.

Dcat sleeps where he wants including my bed. And Im forever shooing him off the table. Dcat rules the house Blush. But then he was fab at the vet and he melted my heart all over again.

Hello quick update. Dark overlord had settled in really well, seemed pretty happy and i thought we had everything under control.

But this weekend he has been off his food. Eating a little but nowhere near how much he normally does. Ive been trying to figure out why and wondered if anyone had any thoughts???

  • Hes been out so much more in the warmer weather and has left 1 or 2 "presents" maybe he is just busy mousing and not wanting food?

  • i did buy a different brand of food (i know i know!!) Ive just been and purchased some more of the previous brand to try (if i can get him in to try it!)

Thirdly - and i do wonder if this is more relevant - 2 new cats have moved 2 door down. Weve caught one of the new cats and Dark overlord fighting at least twice in the last 2 weeks - is the stress of 2 newbies moving in on his territory causing this?

I did google and i wish i hadnt! Its been noticeable over the last 2 days really. Im thinking Vet if the food doesnt work. This all happened after we had fleaed him but i think thats a coincidence as it didnt happen 6 weeks ago.

Any advice welcome!!

They do eat less in the heat so don’t panic, and are HUGELY fussy - mine will shun food if I do my give them their favourite.

Monitor that he’s eating and drinking something over next 24hrs. Likely to just be too hot to be fussed about food.

Ok we managed to persuade him inside and he has deemed to eat a packet of the original brand food!! Which is the most since saturday.

I think i will take him to the vet just to check him over but i feel a bit more relieved seeing him cobsume something.

Glad he is ok.

Cars are very very good at hiding they are unwell so signs like not eating as much or behaving differently are often the only signs there is something wrong. Often it's a shot of anti inflammatory or antibiotics and all is well again.

Mine have had grass stuck up their nose and throat - that was a bit more expensive as they had to have GA to get it removed - they aren't always very cooperative Grin

Good news. Ours do vary in how much they eat.

Can you mix the old with the new do you don’t waste it?

colleysmill · 25/04/2018 07:14

I might try mixing the food, if not ill donate it on.

His previous owners said he wasnt that fussy and would eat anything, clearly hes decided for us he wont!
