Moving house and cat proofing?

We are moving soon about 12 miles away from where we are now. We have 2 cats, putting them into a cattery for 2 nights whilst we move. Questions are, how do we keep them from going mad while we keep them in 1 loves the outdoors.

How long do we keep them in? 2 weeks? Less?

Our new garden is roughly 20ft sq, I would prefer to cat proof our garden but dh thinks boy cat will go bonkers as he's used to roaming though he doesn't appear to go far and not for long periods of time. Is cat proofing a good idea or too restrictive?

Last question! The cat proof fencing are there any that look less like a high security prison?!

I’m about to move house for the second time with my cats. I’ll have a Felliway plug in here while we pack, and will put a few in the new house as soon as we get there. It really works to help them feel calm and safe. If it’s possible have one room for the cats to stay in for the first day, let them scent mark in there before moving to the rest of the house, and yes minimum two weeks in. This gives them time to scent mark the whole house so they know their way back.

If you don't like the aesthetic of the slanting wire fence-toppers, you can get wooden rollers for the top of the fence. Expensive but effective. I think the company is called Katsecure or Katzecure or something like that.

Thank you, will look at the roller type proofing and stock up on felliway though I'm not sure it does much for ours!

If you can cat proof it’s a great compromise for letting the cats have access to outdoors but not able to wander into other people’s gardens or onto a road etc

I would prefer to cat proof, I'd personally feel better knowing they were safe however I don't want them to feel horribly restricted.
