kitten pooing on beds!

I have a lovely five-month-old female kitten. Up until yesterday she has been using her litter box very well with no accidents (that I've been aware of).

Yesterday evening I discovered her shut in our bedroom. At bedtime I noticed that the duvet was wet and smelled of urine. The kitten had clearly urinated on it while she was locked in there. However, she was shut in there with no access to the litter tray, so not her fault.

This evening I was getting my DD ready for bed when my other child pointed out that the cat was pooing on my child's bed! She wasn't locked in and could easily have gone down to her litter tray instead. I'm worried that she now thinks it's ok to poo and wee on the beds. How can I teach her not to do this? I don't want to have to restrict her to the kitchen as she's a very loving, friendly cat and likes to be where everyone else is, but I can't have her making messes on the beds.

I’m no cat expert but I would suggest shutting bedroom door and keeping her out until she relearns. Clear any mess out of her tray throughout the day. Some cats don’t like going in if there is something in there. Also consider the type of litter. Some cats find the rough stuff uncomfortable. I use the sand type.

Good advice from the poster above. I agree with it all.

Thank you, I will try these suggestions. Her poo on my daughter's bed was a bit runny so I'm wondering if she got caught short and needed to go "right now". I will keep an eye on things.
