Bloody fleas

My darling just turned 13 year old girl has fleas 🙁 she is a 100% indoor cat so we have no idea how she caught them.
We first noticed the fleas just before Christmas, and gave her a frontline spot on. When the problem didn't go away, we bought bob Martin tablets, she had all 3 in about 10 days, as the fleas were still around. We have put a new flea collar on, another in the vacuum cleaner, flea spray all over the house. We thought the problem had finally gone away, but I was just combing her, and found another flea. If anyone has any ideas what else we can try I would love to hear them. I hate to think of my poor girl suffering

You need to take your cat to a vet. Frontline doesn't work. You may well have overdosed her. OTC doesn't work and may be dangerous.
Use a proper prescribed product once a month.

Aph413 · 20/01/2018 20:23

Have you considered giving her a flea bath? Rub a ring of the shampoo around her neck to stop them migrating to her head once you get her in the water?

dementedpixie · 20/01/2018 20:24

Get a flea treatment from the vet. Frontline is said not to work and I don't think bob Martin stuff is particularly good either.

Indorex for the house

HardAsSnails · 20/01/2018 20:32

Frontline is mostly rubbish and Bob Martin products either don't work or can be harmful. You need Indorex for your house and Advantage or a prescription spot-on for your cat.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 20/01/2018 20:50

I agree, she needs to see a vet. Please don't give her Bob Martin products, in some cases they have been fatal - I can't believe they are still being sold.

Agree with previous posters.

Flea treatment & prevention should be prescribed by a vet.
Frontline is not effective on most fleas. There are anecdotes online about cats having bad adverse reactions to Bob Martin products.

Ask the vet about Advantage or Advocate.

Thank you for all the replies - I should have said we are now giving her advantage spot on monthly, which we started last week.

I will give the vet a call, I hadn't realised Bob Martin's had such a bad rep - I will steer well clear in future!

Indorex for the house and capstar tablet for the cat (both from the vet), treat the house and cat the same day. Wash EVERYTHING and hoover religiously. It will take a while before you appear to be flea free because of the flea lifecycle but keep on with the advantage and it will be fine.

When was she last wormed? It has to go reguarly with the fleaing.

I pay £10 a month at vets (D.Debit) for all flea, worm, annual jabs, weight, teeth check etc.

Hi Op,

The best advice I received last year was get a household flea spray, and spray everywhere - under all of your furniture where there are the tiniest gaps, such as under bookshelves, by the side of wardrobes and behind them - use the whole can if need be.

Flea larve hate light, they only like dark, warm spots so you spray everywhere.

You then vacuum the house every day for about 10 days. When I say vacuum, you only have to run it over the floors for a little bit and not clean the whole house as the eggs hatch when they feel the vibration, and the larve crawl under the furniture where you've sprayed, and die.

You can also get electronic flea combs if you don't want to use any more chemicles on your cat, but I've found Advantage to work well. I'd still check with the vet to see if it's appropriate to use.
