Drunkenly ordered dcat a new cat tree. It's huge.

Took ages to build it.

He's in the box. Won't even look at it.

Any suggestions?

Leave him to explore it in his own time.

I know that PanCat1 would adore it - but it would take him a bit to time to realise that he likes it.

PanCat2 probably wouldn't be too bothered!

SanFranBear · 19/01/2018 16:45

Haha - I have the exact same one and my furry one has never sat in or on it to my knowledge.

I keep thinking about moving it to a different spot to entice him but I think some cats just don't give a shit about fancy trees..

Threeminis · 19/01/2018 16:45

He has a big scratching post that he loves, but it's falling apart. I've hidden some treats in it so I'm hoping he's gonna show some interest.

Looking at your photo you have your blinds closed - but if you open the slats he might climb it so that he can look out of the window?

PanCat1 loves looking out of the windows, hence me saying he'd love that 'tree' if he had one in a convenient position for him.

What type of cat is he?

Vitalogy · 19/01/2018 16:55

Grin Cats!
If you pretend it's your shelving unit, nothing to do with him, his nose will be pushed out, thus he'll have to try it.

Threeminis · 19/01/2018 16:56

Thanks Vitalogy
I'm trying to block out the snow! It's mental. I'll give it a try though.

Sorry panpan, that reply was meant for you Blush

Although in saying that I'll try using it as a shelving unit too.

We recently bought a new cat tree. We sprinkled a bit of catnip on it, and periodically made da bird 'land' on it during play sessions. She uses it most days now.

TheSecondOfHerName · 19/01/2018 17:04

And in the meantime, you could always turn the box into one of these...

And anyway, the little buggers just like sitting in empty cardboard boxes! PanCat1 has been in lurve with some cardboard which I left lying in the hall, prior to trying to recycle it. It is his current favourite place. Every time I try to whisk it away he looks at me as though I'm the worst CatMumOnEarth!

Yay!

Toddlerteaplease · 19/01/2018 20:53

Mine were straight on theirs, within minutes of it arriving. Feeling smug.

I often find that it is a matter of placement. My cat has ignored things for months until i've accidentally found the correct spot. Agree it has to be useful as a lookout post. Also, if you get him chasing a toy and send it up the tree, it might get him up there. Allow him to 'kill' the toy on the top of the tree and he'll be king of the castle. Grin

Want2beme · 19/01/2018 21:00

Mine took 2 months before using her cat tower. Now she loves it and curls up in it and on it everyday.

I can't let mine have boxes. The one time I tried they used it as a litter tray 🤣🤢

Toddlerteaplease · 20/01/2018 11:24

Definitely is a matter of placement with some things. My girls wouldn't touch the wicker igloos I bought, until I put one behind a chair before I threw it away. Best thing ever

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/01/2018 12:08

Mine wouldn't use his. Gave it to the RSPCA in the end!
He's perfectly happy to climb real trees though.

Threeminis · 20/01/2018 13:40

fairylightsdown. Your post reminded me of an incident that happened with our last cat (who sadly went missing in January 2013,never saw her again Sad). My DD was running a chrystal and mineral business on eBay. In the living room she had several plastic boxes of various mineral substances on the floor. These boxes were about 6 inches deep,by 8 inches wide and 12 inches long. So obviously much smaller than a litter tray. But for some reason, our darling cat decided that one them WAS a litter tray, despite the fact the contents of said tray were stones about the size of Brussels sprouts! Thankfully,it was only a wee she did in it. DD discovered it when she picked several of these stones up,noticed that they were wet,and had that distinctive cat pee smell! They were kept covered up after that.

TheSecondOfHerName · 21/01/2018 19:30

It would be difficult to find a more expensive cat litter!

PanPanPanPing · 29/01/2018 16:01

@Threeminis

Over the past few days I've been thinking about your cat tree, because I know that PanCat1 would love it - and I've realised he needs a 'high tree' inside the house to watch the world go by.

Would you mind telling me where you got it from and how much (ish) it cost you?

Also the top platform for ours has to be 160cm high - and I'm also interested in the width & depth of the lower levels (it's going to have to be stuck behind a sofa in front of the window and I need to know how much I'm going to have to move the sofa forward into the room!)

I've been looking on Amazon and their cat trees are either not high enough or they are mega-expensive Shock Grin

Thank you!
