Toots was spayed last year....so why has my dh just walked into her being mounted and consenting to a mounting in the garden? Confused

Maybe an ovary got left behind and is still producing hormones? You need to ask the vet.

Soubriquet · 18/01/2018 19:02

Looks like it doesn't it?

She shouldn't be able to get pregnant though should she? I mean spaying removes everything

How old was she when she was spayed?

Soubriquet · 18/01/2018 19:06

She was about 9 months old which is quite old for a spaying but the vets confirmed she hadn't had a season by this time either

I googled it, apparently male cats can do this for dominance. I hope she doesn't get pregnant, she shouldn't if she was spayed properly. I think I read somewhere that it can happen if cats are spayed when they are older . Saucy minx😮

pambeesley · 18/01/2018 19:09

Were they actually having sex? My male cat mounts my female cat through learned behaviour.

He is literally stood there shaking his legs til she gets bored and smacks him round the face. They aren’t actually having sex.

Soubriquet · 18/01/2018 19:10

Certainly gave my dh a shock

He looked like this >> Shock

I'm not sure. I didn't see it personally

But he said she was crouched down, tail to the side, male on top thrusting away

I now have a vision in my head of your cats legs shaking 😊

Purplerain101 · 18/01/2018 19:12

My cat was neutered at 3 months and he still humps all the time (he’s now 10). I asked the vet and they said animals often still have some sex hormones left after neutering so will still get an urge now and again. They also said it can be a behavioural dominance thing

Soubriquet · 18/01/2018 19:16

For now, I'll assume it's probably dominance since she's 18 months now and this is the first time we have witnessed this.

If I personally spot it, and it's more than just dominance, then I think miss Toots will be found back to her favourite place (not so favourite anyway)

My tom cat is always shagging inanimate fluffy objects despite having had the cruellest cut of all years ago... I think he had it late though (he is a rescue) and so got his goodies before the chop and has never lost the urge. In any event we leave him to it as it is nice for him to have a hobby. Grin

My tom regularly shags a slipper he fell in love with years ago. Then he ignores it for days until the next shag.

WishITookLifeSeriously · 18/01/2018 22:52

Are you my next door neighbour OP?
I was searching for a cat that I thought was close to death earlier on tonight as it was howling like a banshee. Ds had to inform me it was the dulcet tones of shagging cats!

Luna I have just woken my own cat up by snorting with laughter at 'nice for him to have a hobby.'

bummypicklemummy · 19/01/2018 00:55

I'm trying to get ds to sleep and shaking laughing at the thought of the leg shaking cat getting a smack. Grin

I know how she feels.

Has she been very vocal, this would calling behaviour indicative of being heat.
There is a condition called ovarian remnant syndrome where a tiny portion of ovary is left, the cat can not get pregnant but exhibits signs of heat and is attractive to males.
With just one episode of mounting behaviour and no calling behaviour I would not be investigating if it reoccurs at a 3 or multiple of 3 week interval then I would suggest the ovarian remnant syndrome blood test.
