Brought Casper cat, a 16 month old ginger fluffster, home today.

I'll provide photos if he ever comes out from under the sofa.

Lik-e-liks or those cat salami sticks from Lidl/ Aldi

retirednow · 22/01/2018 14:53

Our cat loved cheese. the bottom cleanung thing, just cut the hair short and the poops don't get stuck, the things we do for loveHalo

Cats seem to gravitate towards people who ignore them so you could try that. Its not good that he scratches the childen it can get infected so they need to keep their distance a bit, our cat used to do a playbite and attempt a few leg kicks when she's had enough of being stroked.

Haven’t rtwt, but how old is Caspar? We got two who were around a year old and who had had two homes before us. I’d never had young cats and they’d never had civilized humans. So one was a bit bitey at times. We got him used to being petted by dazzling him with our phones! It took months.

As for biting the kids, if he’s not breaking the skin then he’s teaching them to respect his space. The kids will learn where he likes to be touched, how often, and for how long. He seems to like everyone and will warm up to you.

I wasn’t sure about mine as I was used to older, more sedate cats, but they now adore me and think I’m their mum!

It's still v v v early. It's been what, 9 days? Some cats take weeks, months to settle in

thecatneuterer · 22/01/2018 16:21

What a sweetie. He looks very relaxed.

What's his story?

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/01/2018 16:48

Cheese? Our cat has a cheese-dar.

It's very early days, he's probably still not sure of you.

Zylkene capsules worked on my stressy Bengal. It's £10 for 20 days supply, 10 if he's a chubster like mine.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/01/2018 17:55

I suppose I’ve forgotten how long it can take them to settle in; it’s been nearly 20 years since I last brought a cat home, and I’ve previously always had kittens.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Dazzle with phones ? What ?????!

I have a 16m old calico and she has a low tolerance for affection. She will very occasionally sit on my knee but not for long. She tolerates being stroked for a few minutes, even purrs, but then quickly bites and kicks. She also lashes out on occasion if you move too close to her. I visited my brother this weekend whose big tabby Tom is such a drooling, purring lapcat that I felt quite sad. DD struggles too as she'd love to cuddle the cat but it's been over a year now and she won't have it. She's our cat and we love her but feel a bit sad that she doesn't like affection. She follows me everywhere though. Just NO TOUCHING.

retirednow · 22/01/2018 19:22

Fluffy, what's a cheese dar.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/01/2018 19:31

It's when your cat can go from deep sleep to wide awake because someone's come into the room eating cheese.

His cheesedar is legendary.

whooptifeckindo · 22/01/2018 19:33

Of course you have a cat!!

Toddlerteaplease · 22/01/2018 19:49

When you go to the vet. Ask them to do a hygiene trim. It will stop the nuggets sticking. I'm sure you'll be besotted with him when he's fully settled. Give it time. He's had massive upheaval if he's been to a rescue and two foster homes.
