How long would you leave your cat alone for?

There's a thread over in AIBU about a dog (appears to be neglect, unfortunately) but it started me thinking about the cat.

I'd leave her on her own for one night with plenty of food, but no longer. Actually I'm lucky now in that I could potentially leave her for 2 days and leave the key with a neighbour.

I've left mine for about 36 hours. Big bowls of food, plenty of water, litter tray made nice and deep.

There's five though so they have each other as company.

Doesn't stop them dragging themselves to the door upon my return all RSPCA advert style as though I've been gone for months.

We've done 48 hours before (2 nights away) with one of those timed feeders that does up to 5 meals, and extra water bowls and litter trays. Cat has always been fine, just needs lots of fuss and playing when we get home.

2 days max, but I have four, anything over that and I'd get someone in.

Considering the people over the road feed them everyday Angry I could probably leave them for months!

I have left them overnight before, before the neighbour started feeding them.

My oldest doesn't come on holiday with us anymore so I don't have to worry about getting someone in.

I do 2 nights with an auto feeder but if we’re away any longer, I leave him max one night. Don’t know why really - I worry he’ll be lonely!

Just overnight. he's incredibly sociable. If we're even out for the day he trundles next door for cuddles and company with their cats. And when we go away and leave NDN to feed him he half moves in with them for sofa cuddles in the evenings, so I wouldn't want him lonely.

I’d have someone pop in if we were going away overnight. We don’t have a catflap, and she will only use the litter tray if she is properly, totally stuck - in the last six months it’s only been used while there was snow. She’s also such a friendly wee soul that she wants to be in the same room as one of us at all times, even if she’s asleep - she greets me like a dog when I’ve been out at work all day.

I could leave our last cat for a couple of nights but current boy I wouldn't leave overnight unless we really had to, he likes to know we are around.

HardAsSnails · 11/01/2018 21:45

Judy mine too, he runs to the back door as soon as one of us comes home and if he comes in and we are not downstairs he comes looking for us yowling!

Oldraver · 12/01/2018 17:10

I've done two nights but usually as soon as DS1 knows we are going away abandoning the poor cat he is straight over to fuss Ernie.

Ern is a bit timid and scared of strange men so this means we cant get in our resident cat feeder (guy over the road)...Blummin awkward thing
