In laws feeding neighbours cat ice cream

The in laws have a cat from next door who visits them every day, sleeps in their house etc. They've never had their own cat so don't own any cat beds but have started putting down towels to sleep on, bowls of water, so obviously making cat more at home.

They have always maintained that they didn't feed the cat, until time before last we visited and they admitted they let cat have custard, ice cream and gravy. Me and DH (cat owners) said you cant do that, its really bad for them and you are stealing neighbours cat.

If someone fed that kind of shite to our cat there would be poo explosions everywhere.

They havent paid any attention to us and when we visited for xmas they were coaxing cat out from under a bed with ice cream!!

Considering writing an letter to their neighbour, what do you think? Ive got no chance of remaining anonymous as no-one else ever enters their house (no friends, evil).

Have suggested that in laws get their own cat but they say they arent really cat people/dont want a cat!!!! Yeah too right, vet bills for custard guzzling cats must be high.

I would keep well out of it, personally.

thethoughtfox · 10/01/2018 11:06

They have stolen a cat and there is a sad, worried owner waiting for it. This is really cruel.

Coldcoffeez · 10/01/2018 11:10

I think cat goes back to real home at night, so not missing as such.

Our dcats eat elsewhere and. Both come home at night, also worry that one of them eats crap as he is getting fatter and fatter. We are at the stage of following him and speaking to the neighbours. I would drop a note through the door, ask them to say they have seen cat enter the home so as not to 'out' you!! Doubt your ils will be so friendly with it as to pay a vet's bill if you don't!

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 10/01/2018 11:15

BTW is the cat tabby??!

Coldcoffeez · 10/01/2018 11:19

Figrolls, no this ones a ginger! Must be a common thing though.

Is it a really, really big Maine Coon and is there a 'Thelma' anywhere in the vicinity?

Coldcoffeez · 10/01/2018 14:54

No sorry Spartacus, its a regular old ginger boy cat with a big saggy belly.

My cat is fat and ginger and bloody loves gravy and custard. There are some poonamis- but it doesn't really hurt him.

ToadOfSadness · 10/01/2018 15:01

Gravy is usually high in salt so won't be good for his kidneys. Ice cream can contain any kind of crap these days, some is dairy, some is a mix of nasty stuff, poor cat.

I would tell the neighbour, and if someone did it to my cat I would want to know. They don't want a cat of their own, doesn't give them the right to borrow one without permission.

IcaMorgan · 10/01/2018 15:05

You need to be careful with anything that has milk in as it is dangerous for cats. It can cause serious kidney problems resulting in them dying. If nothing else you need to stop them giving anything with milk in

Coldcoffeez · 10/01/2018 15:32

Jessica, the difference is that is your cat.

Will have a strong word with in laws about salt & dairy. Then do a note to neighbour when they inevitably ignore us.
