Absorbant door mat

Can anybody recommend a good doormat that is effective in stopping muddy pawprints being tracked all through the house by my cat with a tenancy to go on big muddy adventures?

Can't advise, but laughing at the thought of a cat wiping it's paws on the way in!

I'm imagining some sort of tunnel attached to the cat flap that leads the cat through a 360 degree Dyson airblade, then a car wash roller bit ending in a heated drying section prior to releasing the clean and dry cat into the house.

I'd settle for something that doesn't catapault the muddy cat further into the room - ours just dash in, skid across the room on the mat in time to land on the new carpet.

Squ1ggle · 04/01/2018 12:11

😂😂😂 that would be the dream! I'll settle just for something absorbant enough to get the worst off before he waltzes through the house

Then everyone would wonder why the cat refuses to use the cat flap ...

I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has tried any of the mats specifically marketed as effective in stopping muddy pawprints such as pet rebellion or turtle mats and whether they are actually any good

Turtle mats are good I have one at each door definitely better than others I have tried! And they wash well too.

loveka · 04/01/2018 12:31

Yes, turtle mats. Expensive, but they work.

I got this one from Pets at Home just before Christmas and it’s made a big difference keeping my kitchen floor clean

Ah - I get this - in through catflap & straight up on to the dining table & if there happen to be any important papers on there, bad luck.

I have got this giant Turtle mat, which takes a little bit of damp & muck off as they fly across it. If you have space to lay it the other way it might remove a bit more.

It is very absorbent & genuinely dries the soles of shoes when properly wiped. If I could only train the cats to wipe theirs...

Squ1ggle · 04/01/2018 12:34

Ah thank you!

They don't do my one any more but as it generally looks grubby, thinking on I should have got "sandstone" (ie brown)!

Our turtle mats never made much difference. I've got an old towel down at the moment. It looks awful but I put his food bowl on it & it makes him stay on it for a bit.

thecatneuterer · 04/01/2018 16:32

I'm just about to order a couple of Turtle mats on the strength of this. They're a bit pricey! I'm hoping they'll be worth it.

LapdanceShoeshine · 04/01/2018 19:08

They are pricey, but IMO they are worth it. This is how mine looks currently - much of the filth is from human feet (although you can see the state of the cat flap so that’s what the feet coming inside are like! Grin) & the actual floor isn’t bad at all.

Before washing it I hoover, scrape up the cat hair with a rubber brush, hoover again, & put some old towels in the machine with it to balance the load & mop up any excess water off the rubber back. It dries overnight on the landing banister. I’m very pleased with it.

(I have another cotton one to put down temporarily but it’s not nearly as good)

Lapdance - is that the medium size?

LapdanceShoeshine · 04/01/2018 20:28

No, the big one - large plus - £85! (You can’t see it all because of the Stuff piled up around it...)

Medium is about twice a standard doormat size I think - 85 x 60. Large plus is 75 x 120, nearly twice that again, so it’s like having 4 doormats in one!

Oldraver · 04/01/2018 20:45

We gave up with muddy paw prints on the dining room carpet and put some vinyl down

But yea...still trying to get the cat to wipe his paws

Squ1ggle · 05/01/2018 15:23

I've ordered some turtle mats today. Fingers crossed they help

Hope they do the job for you, Squ1ggle Smile
