Tell me I've done the right thing?

I've just had to have my lovely boy pts. He was only 12. He'd had intermittent inexplicable fits occasionally in the 10 years I'd had him but the most recent one seemed to have rendered his back legs mostly useless. He lost all interest in food/running around/anything other than laying on his bed. No life in him whatsoever. I know it was right for him so why do I feel so so awful?

Yes, it was the right thing.

You feel awful because he was your floof and guilt (and feeling wretched generally) is part of grieving.

Sorry about your boy. xxxx

joangray38 · 02/01/2018 16:21

You love him and sometimes the hardest part about being a pet owner is making a decision which is right but will break your heart. He wasn't well, was unhappy, not enjoying his food / life. You were/are a loving pet owner who made the reponsible decision to pts because he had an existence not a life.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 02/01/2018 16:22

You feel awful because you miss him. Just because you chose to let him die with dignity and peacefully doesn't lessen the grief. Be kind to yourself and hold tight to the knowledge that you did the best thing for him.

Thank you. It's that whole thing of wondering if it was too soon. But over the past couple of days in particular he's had zero interest in anything at all. Now I'm sat here questioning if I was too hasty and it was too soon. It's so hard Sad

No, poor baby couldn't walk and didn't want to eat.

You did the right thing. He's grateful.

Sympathies, you poor thing. They always say 'better a day too early than a day too late'. It's the best thing a pet owner can do for their furry friends, be kind to yourself. Flowers

So sorry to hear about your loss but I think you did the right thing. The poor thing would have been so distressed. Your decision was putting the cats needs first rather being focussed on your own. The cat is at peace now. Take care of yourself.

Yes, you did the right thing, the kindest thing for him. I am so sorry for your loss. Flowers

I'm doubting myself now. Feel so so guilty. Trying to tell myself that the fact he hadn't really moved for a few days, plus no interest in food/going outside, plus sudden aggressiveness and back legs deteriorating all mean I've done the kindest thing for him. But I'm still wondering what if I was wrong?

I'm so sorry. But you did the right thing. If he had no interest in anything that normally gave him pleasure then what sort of existence would that be?
You did the right thing.

When an animal is suffering, Better a day too soon than a day too late. You have made the right decision. Hugs x
