Please help me decide on cat insurance?!

I have two beautiful girls, aged 18 months.
They do go out, but not for long, and only to within my enclosed garden, or to next door gardens, but I think they would struggle to get to the road (mid-terrace, with my garden backed by other gardens and another terrace).

Their health is good, although apparently one had an allergic reaction to the pre-meds, so may be prone to allergies, and the other struggled with walking at birth, but is now fine. The vet said she had dislocating kneecaps, and could develop arthritis in time, but she is absolutely AOK for now.

Both moggies, from Cats Protection, but born there, as mum was a stray.

I am a totally devoted cat-Mum, and since these are my first pets since DH left me, they are also my family, and I would do anything for them. Money is an issue though, and my sole income is benefits.

Please would you help me decide about insurance policies? This feels such an expensive decision to make alone! I think I want to go with Bought by Many, and this will also give me £40 cashback from Quidco.

Their quotes, for both cats, are as indicated in the pictures.
Which would you go for?

I don't know whether to choose lifetime, as my cats are so young: but what if this [relatively new] company goes under? I have then paid a lot when they were young!
So does value look ok, given they are predominantly inside, and the outside is quite a safe environment?

I just don't know...!

Try Tesco. I found them the cheapest and they've been brilliant.

I've had £11,000 of claims in one year!

Lonecatwithkitten · 31/12/2017 08:36

This excess plus 20% of the claim annoys me and confuses clients. If you have a £1000 bill you the client will end up paying £200 plus your excess and this often shocks and upsets clients.

You maybe better paying a few pennies more per month and having a flat rate excess.

oxcat1 · 31/12/2017 10:15

Oh I am definitely not going for the 'excess plus 20% of the claim' - seems almost to negate the point of having it!

£11k in one year? Crikey.

Thanks for the Tesco recommendation. I used them on a previous cat and they were good.
Looking at it now, the premium seems to come in at basically twice what Bought by Many offers, as those quoted prices are for both cats, whereas the online quote for Tesco is £8-19 per cat. Jpg

Be careful, just because you don’t have the excess plus 20% now doesn’t mean it won’t happen when the cat gets older. We used to have a standard excess with Petplan but, when Harry got to a certain age, we also had the 20%. I’d still recommend them though and my vet was happy we were with them.

oxcat1 · 31/12/2017 15:24

Do you think that could happen @PinkSparklyPussyCat, even though this insurance specifically gives two options? If you look at the screenshots, you can get a lower premium by selecting the 20% option. Do you think they could change that later?

Pet Plan came in at about £15 per cat, minimum.
Tesco seems to be £7-18 per cat.

So Bought By Many just seem such a good deal? But I don't know which of the options to select for my two young cats?

I would check with them to see what happens when the cat gets older. Our excess increased and the 20% came into play but it was in the Petplan terms and conditions. I think it changed when he got to 10. Guess when we made our first claim...

Toddlerteaplease · 31/12/2017 15:51

Have you got a club card? I started off paying £18 for both cats. It's now £42. But I worked out it will take 20 years for me to be out of pocket. Given how much they've paid out. And will have to continue to pay out!
